Hotel Elena

As we frequent Bar Elena each time we are on holiday in Stresa, we went along one morning to have our coffee, only to be informed that the bar wouldn't be opening until later as they were full and people were still going in for breakfast. We couldn't understand why they couldn't serve tables on the small terrace or in the square where they have tables and chairs. Possibly they didn't have enough staff to cover! We called back a couple of days later when we were in the town when we ordered toasties, a small beer and a glass of wine. The toasties were fine until one tried the crusts which were like concrete and had to be accompanied by a drink to soften them. We were disappointed that the food wasn't their usual standard. Maybe next year will be better.

Spent 3 nights in this hotel, conveniently located on one of the main squares in Stresa (the hotel also runs a popular bar/gastropub, with tables spilling out to the square). It's about 10 minutes walk from the station, and two minutes from the promenade and the jetty for the Lake Maggiore ferries. This is not for those seeking luxurious or plush accommodation, but very good value. Rooms are comfortable and clean with ensuite bathrooms. The owner Christina and her staff are all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a reasonable spread.

Every night of our holiday we had a drink at Elena's and sat either in the piazza or at the 2 tables in front of the bar area. Excellent service and a great place so soak up the atmosphere of the piazza. A nice little extra with our drinks was a typical Italian offering of savoury treats

Didn’t stay at the hotel but had aperitivo from the bar on two occasions as we were well treated on the first, our host recognised us with a warm greeting. We had a selection of affettati and cheeses as well as bruschette and various drinks. A great experience in the middle of the piazza.

It was a great pleasure to be able to return to our favourite stop in the main square. After 3 years we got a very warm welcome from the staff members who recognised us. We visited several times as we know the service and quality are good. We had wines and toasties on one occasion, beer & toasties another time and many other tasty items. All were excellent. We are already looking forward to our next visit in 2023. As we only used the bar area, we can't comment on the hotel facilities. The hotel has a good situation overlooking the main square.

A nice hotel. Not plush but good value. Rooms comfortable with private shower . Staff just lovely and the area is brilliant near bus stop , shops , lake for swimming and visiting other islands and restaurants . Breakfast fine , adequate and varied , all you need really. Good value hotel .
