PEN and Parchment by Greene King Inns

Recently spent 5 days in Stratford and went to this pub 3 or 4 times. Staff lovely and friendly and very efficient, great atmosphere as well. Food excellent with plenty of choice, they cater for all needs. Would have given 5 stars but for the rip off bar prices, beers twice as expensive as Spoons ,a soft drink of soda water and lime cordial £3.70 a pint, it's 40p in my local as they like many pubs don't charge for soda water! Got Greene King sussed now, we eat there but go to Spoons for a drink. Rose & Crown in Stratford another lovely Greene King pub right opposite Spoons, 9pm Fri & Sat empty, Spoons packed, says it all really!

This inn is very old, the stairs to access the first floor was steep with a door at the first step, there wasn't a level floor to be found. No where was this unevenness more apparent than our bed which had a distinct list to one side, so much so that she complained when I rolled into her in the early hours. We knew what to expect as we have stayed in many older properties before, this just seemed a bit quirkier than normal. We slept reasonably well and did not experience the normal noise from being above a bar area. The room was tastefully decorated and the bathroom modern. We had a view of a small car parking area and canal boats. Fantastic location for a short walk to the city centre and canal basin. The full English breakfast was excellent. We liked the pub and had our evening meal there too, it was from the standard Greene King Inns menu but cooked just as I liked it and she went for some veggie option with no complaints. Multi-storey car park next door. Would use again.

my wife and I had sunday lunch here on sunday 15 march2020 we will not be eating here again. the food was warm at best and half my meal was missing i.e half a roasted apple and no crackling this was rectified eventually by this time our lunch experience had been ruined needless to say we will not be back. cburt

Just returned from a lovely 2 night break. Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean and modern, nice breakfast! Great location for sightseeing and the town. Will definitely visit again soon.

We had 2 adults and a kids meal on a Tuesday evening in half term. The scampi was divine. They kindly swapped my chips for mash, the kids tomato pasta went down a treat and the gin was superb. Great job. A very family-orientated venue. You will see us again 😄

Wasn't sure what to expect in the current circumstances. Our roomwas very good, spacious with a really nice bathroom, clean, great beds and nicely spaced (which it should be at £90 per night). The pub took social distansing very seriously, staff were firm and friendly and very proffessional in controlling their environment. We had lunch which was exceptional, we both had the chicken burger, we have been all over america and europe and both agreed that this was the best burger and chips/fries we have ever had.. Can't wait to stay here again.
