Hotel Colessio

Das Hotel war sauber, innen sehr modern und das Personal hilfsbereit. Ich hatte nie etwas zu essen, aber der Essbereich sah sehr schön und gut eingerichtet aus, genauso wie der Barbereich. Das King-Zimmer war in Ordnung für ein erwachsenes Paar für einen kurzen Aufenthalt. Nichts Spektakuläres, aber immer noch sauber und modern und ich fand den Preis angemessen. Würde auf jeden Fall in Zukunft wieder hier übernachten.

There was no lager sat and Sunday, apart from that it was good.

We booked a night to have some R&R after a demanding week - we were looking forward to a slow start on the Saturday morning and a good breakfast. Our ground floor number 105 was grubby. The room opens onto a public space - there are no blinds or net curtains so there is no privacy unless you keep the curtains closed which results in a very dark room! The bathroom was ok although the towel rail was far too hot and couldn’t be turned down. We couldn’t have tea in the morning as there were no tea bags on the hospitality tray. At breakfast the waiter told us that there was no cooked breakfast due to unforeseen circumstances - he didn’t know what these circumstances were. The cold breakfast options were poor quality, highly processed foods. The guests had to chase the waiter to replenish milk / butter etc in the self service area. At £160 for the room plus £15 parking it was very poor value for money. When checking out I asked for a partial refund due to the lack of a proper breakfast. The receptionist confirmed that she had my contact details and told me the manager, who was off duty, would call me - I’m still waiting. I see from other reviews that the lift has been out of order for some time- it was still out of order last weekend. The whole place lacks attention to detail and would benefit from a deep clean. I’ll not be going back.

Where to start?? I received an invitation from the hotel to let them know of any experiences, good or bad, at their hotel. This is what I sent them, lightly editied so that it suits TA rather than the hotel. Check-In: One person on the check-in counter, also doubling up as the bar tender. This would be, I assume, the busiest time for check-ins (around 6pm). I had two people in front of me for check-in, and another two people were waiting at the bar for drinks. It took me almost 20 minutes to check in, which is not very efficient at all. Obviously trying to save money on staff. Parking: Well, it was a shock to be informed on arrival that there is a charge for parking. This is not mentioned on your hotel site. Nor is it mentioned that you can book up to 6 hours, then there’s a huge jump to 24 hours. I needed 12 hours, but had to pay the full 24 hours at more than £15 per night. Add this to the cost of the rooms, and this place is now in the realms of London hotels. Not a fair way to eke more money out of your guests. Rooms & Conditions: The room was in a good condition, even thought the towels were well-worn. The note regarding “saving the planet” by re-using the towels was noted, but was laughable when, in the morning, I started to shave only to find that the plug leaked. The basin would not hold water, resulting in me having to run the tap continuously to complete my shave. Then, bits of tape holding down the carpets in the hallways? What’s that about? Get them repaired! And as for the lift only going to the 1st floor, I just don’t get it. Theft: On the evening of the 25th I looked for my iPhone earphones to plug in for my evening recreation. I could not find them. I searched everywhere, and checked that I had not packed them away. I had not. It was therefore evident that the cleaner had taken them. That evening, I reported this to Reception, who said that it would be noted and passed to day shift for action. I went down to Reception the next morning (26th) to check out. There was nobody there, so I had to go through to the dining room to find somebody to do the check out. Once I had found someone I asked whether they had a note of the theft that I had reported the night before. There was no record of this. I was very annoyed about this, as it gave the impression that perhaps if it’s not recorded it won’t be pursued, or was considered unimportant. I then told the receptionist again what had happened, and that I would like a full investigation, and that the hotel must know who cleaned my room. The receptionist then said “Theft is a very serious allegation”. Of course it is! I work in the service industry and know exactly what it means, and I would not have said it unless I meant it! The response was “If we find the earphones, we’ll let you know”. Pathetic response. Not a word about bringing the cleaner to task, or any investigation. I asked for feedback on what action would be taken. To date I have heard nothing, so am assuming that noth

Very poor hotel and facilities,the rooms and hotel in general are in serious need of refurbishment. The bathroom and bath in particular was dirty and the shower was faulty. The bedroom was dark and dated and also in need of upgrading,carpet, bed frame, walls all marked and shabby. Returned from birthday dinner at about 9pm and absolutely no one in hotel lounge having a drink or relaxing which tells everything about the standard of this hotel as they had emphasized that they were full. Do yourselves a favour and go next door to the Stirling Highland hotel and avoid this place at all costs.

First off though, the positives. The staff member who had the misfortune of having to deal with our situation on Friday night/ early Saturday morning couldn't have been more helpful under the circumstances. But... When we checked into the room on Friday evening, we immediately noticed the smell of damp. We turned the heating on, and left for a prior dinner reservation elsewhere. Returning to the room that evening, the only effect the heating had had was to alter the smell of damp to a warm smell of damp. We immediately went to reception, where the aforementioned (very helpful) staff member accompanied us back to the room to inspect it. They agreed there was a strong smell in the room, and mentioned that they had had previous reports from housekeeping of a smell of damp in the room. Apparently these reports weren't sufficient to prevent Hotel Colessio charging us over £320 for two nights in the room. Since the hotel was fully booked, the best they could offer was a spray to help mask the smell, which we declined. After a futile attempt at getting to sleep in the cold and damp bed, we admitted defeat and went back to the bar reception area, and curled up on a sofa to sleep there instead. The same very helpful staff member phoned around nearby hotels to see if any had a room free, but unfortunately all were fully booked. A night on the bar area sofa it was. If I hadn't had a couple of glasses of wine with my evening meal, we'd just have checked out there-and-then and driven home. Just after 2:00am, the same helpful staff member woke us up to tell us that an existing booking hadn't turned up, so we were welcome to their room for the night if we wanted. This room was much better, being, as it was, free from a musky smell or a damp bed, and so sometime around 2:30am we finally had a room. We woke up the next morning and immediately checked-out and went home. We had booked to stay another night to enjoy the annual crime writers festival that was taking place in Stirling over the weekend, but we'd both had such a poor night that we just wanted to get away from the hotel and go home and sleep. The different - but equally helpful, and apologetic - staff member who checked us out in the morning promised us a refund, so there's that. But the £50+ worth of crime writer festival tickets we'd paid for went unused, as did our planned dinner reservation at a local restaurant for Saturday night. Frankly, we were both so exhausted we just wanted to write the weekend off as a busted flush and go home. We've been attending the crime writers festival in Stirling for several years, and usually stay at the neighbouring Stirling Highland Hotel. We decided to try Hotel Colessio for a change, which, for obvious reasons, was a mistake. If you are planning a stay in the area, just use the Stirling Highland Hotel; it's literally next door, and is far, far better. And, unlike Hotel Colessio, has free parking.

Don't be put off by some of the reviews here. Yes, the hotel could do with an update - carpets are a bit worn, rooms need a bit more light - but staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly and the location was ideal for the 'Bloody Scotland' festival. Room was clean and tidy, and service very good.

The venue is in a great location, We arrived and could hardly get access due to a wedding, Was the same staff who booked you in that served you at the bar so took too long. Room was very basic, Although the bathroom was really nice, The breakfast was a real issue , there was two young boys possibly students with no clue as to what they were supposed to be doing, both were just emptying table when there was no continental breakfast supplies available this included no cereal, coffee, tea, milk or fresh orange. Also I had to go and ask them If I could have a Scottish breakfast as they never came near out table. This was also a disappointment, For the money that part of the stay was totally ridiculous. I do not blame the kids I blame the management. The £15 charge to park over and about the room price is not what you expect either.

Atrocious Hotel they don't deserve 1 star should be minus 10 No respect for disabled visitors The ladies disabled toilet is disgusting, filthy, broken waste bin and rusty filthy mirror. The owners and management should take a good look at themselves in that mirror. And for such a hotel to charge disabled drivers parking well what can I say im just glad it was a lunch visit only and we did not need to suffer staying in one of their bedrooms which other reviews are pretty awful
