The Moorland Hotel

Ok, let's be real. This hotel is a little dated. It would benefit from complete redecoration. A little busy with no cohesive look or theme. But.... It was spotlessly clean and the welcome we received from Suniel at the reception desk was sunny, warm and very friendly. Throughout our short stay, nothing was too much trouble for him and he went out of his way to accommodate any need we had, maintaining his warmth each time. We booked a bed, breakfast and evening meal package and the food was absolutely delicious. Very well presented and tasted spectacular. Our room was pleasant and again very clean with stunning views of Dartmoor along with feeding lambs. My wife and I will definitely return. Suniel is pure gold who the owners need to make sure they retain, as he would be a huge reason for us returning in the future.

What a lovely atmosphere and the staff were so welcoming. They did such an amazing job. The food was so good and could not be faulted. The decor was a bit dated but the bed was comfy and everything clean. In a great place with views across the Plymouth sound although 7 miles away. From the back straight on to the moorland. Great situation and would go there again without hesitation. Full marks I’d say.

Hotel is set out of town on the edge of Dartmoor. Plenty of parking available for my van. Fantastic view from room on top floor. Bar downstairs showed football. Breakfast was delicious. Only slight negative - the shower cubicle was tight. Room was clean.

Treat yourself to the Moorland curry night Better than any takeaway real authentic Indian /Nepalese food. Made to order I had the lamb curry full of meat now like the 6 pcs in the takeaway. Sunil is a brilliant host nothing is too much trouble. You can have the curry to whatever heat you want.

As previously mentioned the exterior is dated but having read the good reviews this didn’t matter I checked in and was given room 5 wow lovely view from the window That’s where the positivity ends The toilet had faeces still on the side the shower area was riddled with black mould. The walls had damp and wallpaper peeling off There was no way I was staying there When I went to complain and say I would t stay there they didn’t even ask me what was wrong with the room. I was given the key to room 13 On first glance wasn’t bad Went and had food which was lovely Came back to room then started to notice more mould and peeling wallpaper sockets didn’t work etc The noises of people in the other rooms/corridor left me feeling unsafe and I resorted to wedging a chair under my door handle that night. There were a lot of workmen staying there but you can’t get breakfast until 730 This was no good to me or them as we had to leave for work before When I asked for the coat of breakfast to be refunded basically got told no !! I can honestly say this is by far the worst hotel I have ever experienced and would urge everyone not to stay here ever

Staff very friendly but that's where is ends , this place is like stepping back into the 90's shocking people actually stay here mold everywhere and stains on carpets. I don't believe these reviews are from real people we are meant to still be there and we left after the breakfast that I didn't eat cold and after i went back to room i looked up the environmental health rating and it received a 1* shocking start to finished so disappointed we've left and come home , if we weren't so exhausted last night I would have walked straight back out .this place can have so much potential and the building outside looks ok ie not falling apart needs a lick of paint but inside wow as leaving after the breakfast we noticed the electric socket hanging off the wall so dangerous.
