I must say I was surprised at the complimentary Happy Hour with 5 varieties of wine, cheese, sausage, and crackers. I truly enjoyed the basket of Halloween candy on the counter just waiting for me to pluck a piece as I wandered by. The breakfast including casserole, biscuits, gravy, and homemade sandwiches was much appreciated. Thanks, Nick for your efforts with the wine bar and the breakfast. Now for the negative: we reserved 2 rooms on the first floor, one with a walk-in shower. We arrived after 5:00 pm to find that the room with the walk-in shower had already been given to another guest, meaning that I had to take a 1st-floor room with a tub I had to crawl over. My niece was relegated to a room on the upper floor. Fortunately, they could walk upstairs. If I had to walk up the steps, I would have had to find another place. I cannot understand when people guarantee a room and request facilities because they need them, they can be given away to people who arrive earlier in the day. Additionally, both rooms we occupied were street side and we heard people talking from the sidewalk constantly until after midnight. The hotel certainly meets some of the requirements for a Charming Boutique Style but lacks those professional touches that make it a return attraction for me. A note for South Haven, handicapped parking in front of the hotel would have been greatly appreciated.
