Packwood House

Our anniversary getaway. The Sherwood Inn and Packwood House was highly recommend to us. We stayed one night in 318 at the Packwood House. It was not the top of the line that the price would reflex. The room with a view had dirty windows. Not dirt from a couple of day but months. The curtain rod over the bed was broken letting light in all night long. The light over the coffee maker was broken and laying on the counter. On the brighter side location was great you are in the middle of town. There is no one on site but there is 24 hr. person at the Sherwood Inn a couple of doors away. The Sherwood is where the restaurant is. We went to dinner on 7/29 at the Sherwood. We have reservations for 7 and seated at 7:25. They didn't seem that busy. Our waiter Eliot was prompt to start with and then he was given a large table. we ordered drinks and then we ordered our meal. I started with a Bowl of French onion soup and Traven burger my wife ordered an open face Ruben sandwich. The soup came quickly and was good. the stretch bread is fresh and good. The meal took a long time and we didn't see our waiter because the large table was taking all his time. The food arrived about 25 minutes after ordering. My burger was well done when I ordered medium rare and the fries were cool. My wife's sandwich was not warm and the German potato salad had a strange taste to it. We would have returned the food but there was no callback by the waiter. When he did come by he asked if we wanted dessert and had the bill in hand. Not a good meal.

We stayed here in July as we were exhibiting in the boat show. I couldn't have asked for a better location, close to the boat show and walking distance to everything in the village, as is the sister hotel the sherwood in but it was booked. This is why it gets 4 stars in my book, simple location. Packwood is not as historical as many of the hotels or B & B's in the area and is probably in need of a little refresher. The bathroom is a bit dated might be time to update the tub & shower head as water pressure was limited and hot water was in short supply. The carpet did have some stains and needed cleaned, there was a trail of something from the mini fridge to the bed. We stayed in room #211, which faced the street so there is a bit of road noice as this is a main road, the tree did block the view but provided shade to the building. The room itself was very spacious with a king bed and sitting area. The bed was comfy as were the pillows. The bathroom was on the small side and needs refreshed. There is a small parking area under the hotel for guests only, if you have a large vehicle and it is busy it will be a tight squeeze, there are a few spots outside and that may be your best option. The building has no front desk and is locked at all times so it's nice and secure, you have to check in at the Sherwood down the street. Its not the cleanest most updated place we have stayed but the location for me is enough to stay there again if we come to the boat show, if your just visiting in town there are plenty of other options to choose from that would also be convenient.

Terrible. Do NOT let the pictures on the web fool you. It looks charming. It is not. It looks recently refurbished. That is not true. It looks well maintained. It has not been. It is mediocre in every respect, from the french doors that hardly close, to cheesy lousy in room coffee maker, to the plastic cups. This is a perfect example of a place that gets by because the Village is in demand.

This was the most peaceful and comfortable hotel stay I've ever had. Once you check in at the Sherwood House, a 2 minute walk down the picturesque street, you get a parking pass to park in the open air private garage under the building. There is a Talbot's at the front of the building, and by the side there is a door only opened by room key to a small lobby with no people. It's a short elevator ride up to the circular hallways, and the elevator goes to the garage as well. Our room was super cozy and clean, with a private balcony that had a table and the best view Skaneateles has to offer! In the morning it was a quick walk to the Sherwood House for a delicious breakfast. I plan to stay here again the next time I'm in Skaneateles.
