Sunshine Lodge Inn

After a week in various BC hotels whose mattresses tended toward overly soft, we were delighted with the ones here, firm but not hard. But, everything else about this family-run property was top-notch as well. The gardens around the small pool were lovingly tended; the room was one of the largest, as was the bathroom; a kitchenette is included, which would be helpful for some travelers; and the continental breakfast was more than adequate. Other pluses: TV screen larger than most, with ample selection of US and Canadian channels; double sink in bathroom; location right on 101, not far from the ferry; near several decent restaurants; an in-room fireplace (for winter use); and friendly staff. The pool towels are bigger and thicker than the bath towels in the room, so we used those for showering. The pool is small, but quite deep at one end (3 meters, 10 feet), for no apparent reason. The shallow end is one meter, three feet. It was clean and refreshing after a day's drive. Unfortunately, smoking is allowed on the patio. Our neighbor's ashtray had six butts in it. Although this was just a one-night stopover on the way back from the Sunshine Coast, we wished the other places in which we had stayed were as nice.

Stayed here for a few nights. Comfortable beds & pillows, big rooms with kitchenette. Staff is courteous & approachable. Ask for rooms far from the courtyard entrance because the door/gate bangs loudly & the rooms near it can feel the vibration on the wall.

We were there for a hockey tournament. The staff were amazingly accommodating to our team and our families. Allowing the kids to play and run around outside and just have fun. Bed mattresses were pretty new and the rooms were clean. Complimentary Gatorade, coffee, tea, etc. Thanks so much for everything!

I had booked one night at this establishment and was unfortunately unable to travel as my daughter came down with the flu in the early hours of the morning we were meant to travel there. I called to cancel the booking as soon as it was clear we would be unable to make it, but was asked for a doctor's note. I don't typically take my children to the doctor for something like this unless it last more than 24 hours. Now I know this can likely be understood from both sides, but the response ultimately was that I would be charged for the full night. I had called the establishment multiple times in the morning and nobody answered the phone. And when I called after I received this response the person whom I spoke with said that it's not her problem that my child is sick and it's my fault that she's had people calling with last minute cancellations etc. People don't plan emergencies, that's why these cancellations are last minute... I feel like that's kind of par for the course in this industry and that some understanding should be shown... Anyway, I did let the owner know that I was going to be reviewing this exchange, to which she responded she would leave me a review? The lack of empathy in a situation like this is one that I hadn't experienced yet. So now I am caring for a sick child, have disappointed kids/family for a missed trip, and am out $200 for a room we didn't get to use. Best of luck in your business; if the service I received is typical to your guests, you will certainly need it.

We had a great weekend stay here. We definitely hope to come back for a longer visit sometime. Great location near a bus stops, supermarket, and places to eat. Room was large for 2 people, good kitchenette for making our own meals, good bed, good WIFI. I liked the swimming pool, had a good dip in it before going out to dinner at the Blackfish Pub. Would be great on a hot day. I liked the decor and the little stone dragons in the garden. Staff were friendly too. All in all a big thumbs up from us!

Renovated room. Very spacious. Clean And good value for price. Pool looks nice but not Open yet. Good location. Would recommend. New hot plate that was heated by aluminum so frying pan we brought wouldnt work. Comfortabke bed
