This is the first time I have ever written a negative review for a hotel, especially a Japanese hotel. I can't express how disappointed I am with the level of service we received. Unfortunately, it felt like the hotel was not foreigner-friendly, as our concerns and requests were repeatedly ignored.
Although Suirei Suite is marketed as a premium accommodation, it is not a standalone new hotel and shares all of its facilities with Jozenkai View Hotel, which appears to mainly cater to large tour groups. We were directed to a separate "premium" check-in counter, but there was no welcome drink or special hospitality. More disappointingly, the staff could not clearly explain our meal plan or provide accurate information about our stay.
On our first evening, we found our own way to the French-Japanese restaurant. The restaurant staff were friendly, polite, and genuinely helpful. However, because we had not been provided with the menu in advance, we only discovered upon arrival that several dishes contained ingredients we could not consume due to religious restrictions and food allergies. The restaurant staff were understanding and willing to accommodate our dietary requirements, but to avoid any inconvenience, we decided to change both our breakfast and second night's dinner to the standard buffet.
Unfortunately, the buffet breakfast was another disappointment. The dining area was extremely crowded and chaotic, likely because it was shared with guests from the larger hotel. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, but many appeared to be pre-prepared or mass-produced rather than freshly made. While there was plenty of food available, the overall quality did not meet the standard we expected from a hotel positioning itself as a premium Japanese property. The food lacked freshness and refinement, making the breakfast experience feel more like a large tour-group cafeteria than a luxury hotel.
After having breakfast at the buffet on our first morning, our family decided that we would prefer to return to the French restaurant for dinner that evening and breakfast the following day. We visited the front desk at 9:00 a.m. to make this request. To our surprise, we were told that neither change could be accommodated because of ingredient preparation requirements.
I completely understand if it was too late to change the dinner reservation on the same day. However, it is unreasonable that our request for breakfast the following morning—more than 24 hours in advance—was also rejected. There was no effort to offer an alternative solution or explain the situation in a way that made sense. It simply felt like our requests were dismissed.
I wrote to the hotel on the very same day to express our concerns and seek clarification. Unfortunately, our message was completely ignored. We did not receive any acknowledgment, response, or follow-up during our stay. For a hotel that claims to provide premium service, this lack of communication and concern for guest feedback was extremely disappointing.
Overall, while the restaurant staff provided warm and attentive service, the front desk and guest services were disappointing. For a hotel that promotes itself as a premium Japanese hospitality experience, I expected much better communication, flexibility, and consideration for international guests. Sadly, this experience fell far short of those expectations.
