The Punch Bowl Inn

We stayed one night at the Punch Bowl inn, for bed and breakfast. We were welcomed and shown to our room, which was OK. The main drawback was no shower, just a hand held shower. This was OK for one night but any more would have been a pain. I probably should have checked this but just presumed there would be a shower. The room itself was fine- clean and traditionally decorated. The breakfast included was good with a varied choice and nice coffee. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but felt just over £200 was quite expensive (although that did include a dog) The food for dinner was really good, and staff were friendly. It was reasonably priced and we all enjoyed it. However, the only thing we didn’t like was that we sat in the bar area which was extremely bright. I usually like a cosy space.

We live fairly locally and gave passed the Punchbowl a few times but never stopped which was a mistake. Lovely venue, great staff and fabulous lunch (great chips!) Friends have also suggested we go back for Sunday lunch which we will. Amazing views of the Dale

We visited for dinner and it was really good. The food portions made us feel full and were extremely tasty. The staff were extremely polite and the food was delivered quickly. There is a great selection of real Ales from the long bar. Later in the evening there were some locals at the bar and it was very interesting to talk to them about the history of the valley. So, we felt very welcome indeed. Great place - highly recommend visiting certainly for food and drink.

Delicious food, friendly service. I had the pork chop with black pudding, mash and burnt apple puree. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Everyone on our table agreed the food was beautiful and well presented. Would visit again next time I’m in the local area.

Thank you to the kind staff at the Punch Bowl Inn who looked after us (Dad and two boys) after our car broke down nearby. A delicious meal, offers of a lift back to our holiday house and allowing us to stay in the warmth of the bar until the breakdown truck arrived near midnight. A lovely pub staffed by lovely people!

A February midweek break, which found us the only couple staying in the hotel! Overall, despite the lousy weather, we enjoyed our break, though there are one or two points I should mention. Our room (1) was spacious and comfortable, but the lighting was very dim, making it impossible to read after sunset. I set off to look for the advertised Residents Lounge, only to find it no longer exists, and is being converted into another bedroom. Obviously this is a fait-accompli, but I feel is a mistake as it means facilities for guests are the bar, and that's it. Incidentally, our room was directly above the bar, and some locals certainly made their presence felt. Of course they are perfectly entitled to make some noise. I am just mentioning the fact. A few more people were in for dinner, which was well presented and served promptly. The menu was varied, as was the wine list. Staff at all times were friendly and courteous. Breakfast was good. Bedroom keys were on large wooden fobs, and in our case the lock was right up against the door frame, making turning the key extremely difficult. The lack of double glazing meant a very wet, misted window in the mornings. OK, minor niggles. It's an ideal base for touring the Yorkshire Dales, even on wet, foggy days such as we had. The staff work hard to maintain standards, and we hope they get busier as the year goes on.
