Wir sind während unserer Reisevorbereitung auf die Website der Lodge gestoßen und fanden das angebotene Safari Programm sehr transparent und überzeugend. Daher haben wir das Team per Mail angeschrieben und einen Aufenthalt nach unseren Wünschen geplant. Der Kontakt per Mail war sehr zuverlässig und komfortabel. Die Mitarbeiter der Lodge boten uns auch an, die Inlandsflüge für uns zu buchen, was sehr gut geklappt hat. Wir haben per Vorkasse (Überweisung) bezahlt, unserer Bedenken dahingehend waren total unbegründet. Vor Ort wurden wir vom gesamten Team sehr herzlich empfangen und umsorgt. Die Lage der Lodge am Fluss ist traumhaft und wir hatten einen super Aufenthalt. Die Hütten (wir hatten eine mud hut gebucht) wurden kürzlich erst neu errichtet und sind sehr komfortabel ausgestattet. Auch das Essen war sehr lecker. Die Safaris (Jeep, Boot und walking) waren toll, wir haben sehr viel gesehen und gelernt. Einzig der sehr teure Flughafentransfer (76 $ für 2x10 Minuten Fahrt) kam uns auf der Rechnung etwas hoch vor. Gerade das sehr transparente Konzept mit den Reisepaketen hat uns überzeugt und wir können einen Aufenthalt in der Lodge allen Selous-Besuchern nur wärmstens ans Herz legen.

Wer auf der Suche nach einer Safari ist sollte unbedingt dieses Camp wählen! Wir waren für zwei Nächte und drei Tage im Camp. Transfer und Check in hat wunderbar geklappt, wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und direkt über den Ablauf der nächsten Tage informiert. Alle Mitarbeiter sind so so freundlich und ihnen ist es wichtig, dass es einem an nichts fehlt! Wir starteten direkt am Ankunftstag mit der Bootssafari, welche direkt am Camp startet. Wir sahen Hippos, Krokodile, viele Vögel und sogar 2 Giraffen. Der Tag wurde dann mit einem traumhaften Sonnenuntergang und einem sehr sehr guten Abendessen gekrönt. Am nächsten Tag gabs frühstück und dann ging es direkt los zum Game Drive mit unserem Guide „Anton“ jeder sollte sich glücklich schätzen wenn man ihn hat! Er hat wirklich alles gegebenen um uns die Tiere zu zeigen und konnte Fragen beantworten. Alles in allem ein unschlagbares Preisleiatungsverhältnis!

Located right on the Rufiji river, the Selous river camp is a fabulous eco lodge with spectacular views. The whole team is very friendly and easygoing, accommodation are mud huts but we enjoyed to have our private bathrooms. The cook is great, all our meals were absolutely delicious and it was a pleasure to discuss with the staff. If you want to get a very special experience with nature, do not hesitate, the team there takes care of everything you need. A place to be!

Because of the Covid closures I had to rely on older reviews and extensive correspondence with the staff. Both impressed me deeply and I could not be more delighted with our decision to visit the Selous river camp. The devotion and warmth of the team will never be forgotten. The character of the camp, attention to our special requests, the security, and the thoughtfully arranged land and river safaris with top notch and enthusiastic guides together made this a wonderful and memorable experience. The are several lodging choices in Selous but for those of us who care about personality and a genuinely personal experience there could not be a better choice. Have a look at the photo below. Where have you ever stayed where the entire staff comes to see you off? Hugs, kisses, and the most emotional farewell in my life. If you like the larger lodges with a less personal connection that's fine, but if you want to connect with both magnificent animals and the human heart, this is the place for you! (Not to mention that the chef is on top of his game as well!)

The camp is so beautiful, the location is incredible, and the food was delicious. The rooms and facilities were super clean and comfortable. The thing that made this place incredible was the staff. From booking our stay to leaving, the whole experience was seamless - they did their utmost to help us with anything and everything. Frank is the friendliest, most helpful barman - always asking how your day was and checking if you need anything else. Sultan and Dula were lovely and always helping to arrange all the small things that made the trip so special. It was my friend's birthday and Sultan arranged a birthday cake, everyone was singing and dancing - it was truly such a sweet surprise. We booked a package deal through the camp including all food, accommodation and safari. Our safari guide was Songoro, and he was so good we requested him for all of our game drives. He was super knowledgeable and incredibly friendly, he went out of his way to show us as much as he could of the park and to track down specific animals we wanted to see - could not recommend him enough. We will 100% be back to stay at the Selous River Camp, was our favourite part of our entire Tanzania trip.

Selous river camp is such a lovely escape. Wonderful location, right on the river with magical sunsets. The camp is simple & clean, all about highlighting the beautiful surroundings. Delish food & lovely, helpful staff. Cannot wait to come back again.

We stayed at the selous river camp for 3 nights, and we have to say, the location is stunning and the food was good. However, on the last night, when we went to the toilet (3 minutes maximum) somebody went into our tent and stole our money. The only footprints around in the sand were those of us and the guards... The reaction of the management was less than ideal, acting like they didn't believe us and being unreachable after promising to stay in contact. We have not received any compensation for what has happened. This experience has really ruined our holiday and we hope nobody else will be a victim of robbery here in this unsafe place! We strongly recommend to go to any other place.

This is a beautiful location and a beautiful camp. The riverside setting for the bar is perfectly sited on a bend in the river, with long views right on the border of the park looking into pure wilderness. Probably the best location and views you can get without staying inside the park - which we didn't want to do as some of our group were on a tight budget. They offer the most perfect Selous day in the park with a morning of really well managed game driving in the park, then a transfer to a boat and an afternoon river safari slowly meandering back to Camp. Stunning. We didn't see another soul for hours - just amazing birdlife - fish eagles, storks, herons, bee eaters everywhere you looked. The River Camp looked after us so well - very attentive, great company, cold drinks, and we slept so well every night.

We traveled from the Dar with our children and nephew, and our Slow Safari experience was exceptional. Being so close to the park allowed us to enjoy a half-day game drive with knowledgeable guides who made the experience unforgettable. Transitioning to a river safari and meandering back to the lodge was incredible – we didn't see another soul for four hours. The bird life and close encounters with crocs, hippos, and turtles were heart-stopping. The lodge itself was perfect. Our room was fantastic, featuring a lovely shower room. Our nephew, who was on a budget, was very happy with his camping experience. The kids were thrilled throughout the trip, and the lodge's incredible views of the river added to the tranquil and serene atmosphere. I highly recommend this safari. It's only a few hours from Dar. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
