Our trouble began with the Le Méridien Visconti Rome before we even arrived and were it not for the fact that it was the cheapest Marriott property within our destination, we probably would not have elected to stay here. My wife, daughter, and I had booked the Le Méridien Visconti Rome months in advance. Our booking was for a larger 3-twin room - there were no 2Q or 2D rooms available. About two weeks prior to arrival, the rate dropped by over 300 euros per night and I asked to have the rate reduced - which the hotel did. However, they asked... we see that you have booked a 3 twin room, do you have more than 3 guests which I honestly replied, yes, my wife and daughter. They immediately responded with that will incur an additional charge of 70 euros per night in part due to us providing breakfast as there is added cost. I am a lifetime PLATINUM ELITE at Marriott and currently have TITANIUM ELITE status which means breakfast is generally free (or I could receive additional points for each night of the stay). I responded that breakfast should be free with my status PLUS I had booked a "stay with breakfast" rate on the marriott website implying breakfast was included regardless. The revenue manager agreed to reduce the surcharge from 70 to 50 euros per night, but to be fair, there should have been no surcharge at all given my status with Marriott. Ridiculous. The whole things schmacks of a "cash grab" and does not start our visit on the "right foot". As such, I am reluctant and wary of any of the staff, but let's see how the visit progresses.
