Estancia San Carlos Guayabitos

We stumbled across this hotel while walking along the beach and liked its pool and grounds and checked in the next night (after a nightmare experience at another hotel at the opposite end of the beach). The grounds are visually attractive and well maintained with double swimming pools in the centre. The hotel reception did not speak English but two of the groundskeepers did. Alberto was a kind man who spoke English and helped us a lot as did Viktor? (not sure of his name). Rincon de Guayabitos is very Mexican and not many people speak English. There were many Mexican families enjoying themselves along the long beach. It is so nice to see how Mexican families gather together and enjoy the kids and relatives! The hotel was hosting Mexican families and we appeared to be the only Canadians at this time of the year which is the off season for tourists.October in this part of Mexico is very hot, humid and uncomfortable; also many restaurants are closed. Our room overlooked the pools and the beach and had a balcony with chairs. There are family suites available. I would rated this hotel a 4 but the beds were hard and not comfy at all. The room had a TV with one English station - CNN- which either Alberto or Viktor helped us to get a clear tv signal. This was great because we could get news about the middle east conflict that is going on. The room had a mini fridge for our drinks which we appreciated very much. There is purified water in the hall to use in filing water bottles which was also appreciated. There was decent wi-fi and air conditioning. The restaurant in the hotel is open for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. The shrimp dishes were very good! Shrimp was our go to meal here. The hotel is in town but on the beach side. An OXXO store is very nearby but we found the prices to be expensive. Many tacos stands are nearby.

We just got home from 9 days here. It was fantastic and incredibly relaxing. We were part of a large tour group that came over by bus, probably 40-50 in the group that comes every January. This is not a fancy or luxurious place. It’s not a 5 star resort. It’s a small, basic, comfortable, safe hotel. It’s smack in the middle of the best beach, in the coolest little town. Our room had a new mini fridge. Apparently every room has one now. That was convenient, and Oxxo is across the street for buying drinks and snacks, and a larger grocery one block up on the main drag. We thought the hotel restaurant was great. We enjoyed all our meals there, plus the daily specials. Happy hour from 4-6pm was fantastic. Big, good 2 for 1 drinks. Nice staff would even bring our lunch to our beach and pool palapa. Pool was pretty cold (January) so we never used it, but it’s beautiful and every room opens to the pool and courtyard, so never far to walk. We will be back next year! Thanks for being our home away from home!
