Amazing buffet dinner last night. Every dish was special, using quality ingredients and fresh produce. We were absolutely delighted and impressed. Charming and well restored dining hall ! Service was quick We will be back next season Delicious experience

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Opinicon, so a very good friend and I took the lovely drive out hwy 15, had lunch in the dining room and then ice cream in the courtyard. It was glorious! Our server was so knowledgeable and friendly, his recommendations were spot on and fabulous! The food was delicious and wonderful. We didn’t get home until 4 in the afternoon having chatted all the way. We’ll be back soon and we’ll tell everyone that this is a must go to destination! Thanks for a truly great afternoon!!

We went on a Monday for a nice midday meal and were Not disappointed! Excellent food (we had mocktails, truffle fries, fruit & nut salad, and chicken club), excellent grounds, excellent service with many students working, and the cutest ice cream shop with their own in-house recipes - it was a perfect short day trip. Absolutely impressive renovation respecting the history of the original architecture. The last time we walked the grounds many years ago it was boarded up and vacant, so kudos to the incredible amount of vision, design, and labour hours that went into this restoration. We learned they are no longer offering overnight accommodations except for large groups. Hopefully they will be able to offer hotel rooms again in the future. We also enjoyed the Lockmaster Museum and watching boats go through the locks.

It was my third visit this summer to the Opinicon restaurant and I was disappointed every time. Service was slow, food was overpriced and mediocre. We had a family member call ahead to pay for our drinks as a surprise for our anniversary. They gave their credit card information and nothing was done. I live here locally in the summer, but will not return.

Went here on 3july with friends for lunch/ dinner, in the bar area. Placed our order for drinks . Or water came quickly enough, however, not my beer..after a period of time I had to ask where my beer was. Seems the server had forgotten??? But I got it in the end...BUT we were still waiting on our food and continued to wait for nearly 40 mins. When we caught the servers attention, we asked when are we getting our food we ordered...she went to check and upon returning said it will be another 20 mins. Which tells me she didn't put the order into the kitchen. Salad and pouting do not take over an hour to prepare. She gave me my beer free...whoopee do... Now I should also note that when we arrived there, it was quiet. Only one other couple in the bar area.also while waiting for our food, we noticed a chef (?) standing at the side of the bar, then going out for a smoke.. We left without having anything to eat. If it is under new management then they have my sympathies , you need to actually TRAIN YOUR STAFF..and have enough supplies in, we were told three items were no longer available My friends and I will not be back. I have NEVER EVER had this happen before at the many restaurants I frequently visit.

went for lunch - sat on the patio - nice table. Server was friendly and fast. However, I ordered the 2 piece fish & chips - seriously overcooked to the point that I couldn't eat the second piece - tough and dry (should have sent the whole meal back but my friend's food was ok and I was hungry). Anyway, I told the server about the fish but they charged full price for the meal ($25++) and I didn't want to make a scene. Have heard bad things about the place from others and should have listened to them. Won't be returning. Beautiful place tho.

The lodge and staff are well worth the visit. There are NO ROOMS, OR CABINS available any more except as we understood it for a large group staying overnight after a wedding or something like that. No just renting accomodation any more, so we were told. We have been there a number of times before the new ownership and after and never disappointed,...before yesterday. it certainly is a very beautiful. Well restored and cared for destination property. We will return once the gardens are matured and the lodge grounds reach their full beauty. The staff were exceptionally warm and greeting made us feel like we were at home, away from home. The waitress Lisa was excellent and her suggestions and attentive nature made our visit just special. Why did I give it only 2 stars? The menu and the meal were way below our previous visits. And I mean way below. We thought about the few choices and settled on the old reliable fish and chip dinners with two pieces of fish. My wife had the regular fries and I took Lisas suggestion of the Fritter Fries. Both meals were just unacceptable but we were very hungry and we both only ate one piece of fish and almost none of the fries. We asked for take out boxes for the fish. But today when we thought we might eat the second pieces if fish we decided to thrown them out. The fries were burned to charcoal and the fish was really batter with a hint of fish inside. Nothing compared to the fish and chips we have come to love at many restaurants here in Ottawa. We met and exchanged thoughts with a lovely couple who sat at the next table so that part of the dinner was very enjoyable. Come for the gardens and the staff and a drink or two, but for food, We would suggest a different venue for sure. Carol and Eldon Gaw

Excellent place. Family friendly. Our family has been going to Chaffeys locks for 25 years and we recommend this place to everyone. Great food and a great place to take your children boating and learn to fish.

We were boating by on the Rideau Canal and stopped in for an apple pie ice cream in a homemade waffle cone (even got to watch them making them) and a root beer float with vanilla ice cream. Both were very tasty and very refreshing. We saw a lot of pizzas going out from the outdoor pizza oven, so they are likely very good, but we were there just for ice cream. We stopped in a couple years ago, but this time you can see the substantial improvements and upgrades to the property. Hopefully they will offer accommodations again as we would be happy to stay there as well.
