Staying one night at the Grand Palace Hotel and Resort, Rangpur was a pleasant surprise during an hectic 5-day North Bengal trip. I've never been to this hotel and as such was a little skeptical. The entry on a busy street was not so impressive. However, ever since we entered into the hotel I started loving arrangements, cleanliness, staff etiquette, and overall service. It was during Ramadan month and so our priority was to check availability of food for all touring members irrespective of religion. A young man (we came to know later that he is the operations manager) assured us of all the services that we need during the stay. Room was cosy and comfortable for staying. I always check the pillow first as still in some places of Bangladesh hotels provide uncomfortable hard pillows. So, I liked a set of soft pillows on the bed. Rooms have a clean closet and a safe inside that, a full size mirror, two comfortable chairs, and of course a working table with tea, coffee, electric cattle and trea set on one corner of the table. Inside the shower room I was surprised to see a shaving glass though a hair dryer is sometimes common. Dental kit set tray also has a shaving and sewing kit apart from lotion. These are somehow not common in most of the hotels of this standard. So, I liked to see those there. We went down at around 7:30 PM for dinner and that young gentleman surprised us by facilitating our choice of items. A group of six had a variety of orders, rice to nun, vegetables to dals, fish to chicken and everything they served in a record time. The food was absolutely delicious and probably I'll go back to that place for a proper dinner. One of our team members was craving milk tea throughout the past three days and her special requirement was cow milk not powder milk and I was thinking of some sweet as dessert. The young man was like a magician and to our surprise served hot milk tea and delicious 'gulab jamun.' It was totally a pleasant experience for a team of six members with four expatriates. Breakfast buffet was equally good with a choice of bread and butter, rice and various curries, and of course 'special milk tea' and coffee. Overall it was a delightful experience in a new place.
