I recently stayed at Hotel Grand Canyon, formerly VW Canyon, and from what I heard, it has been acquired by the Haldiram Group. Given its grand architecture, spacious lobby, large rooms, and upscale amenities, it certainly feels like a proper five-star hotel. However, I believe the Haldiram Group could do more to maintain and enhance the property to match its potential.
Pros:
Impressive Infrastructure – The hotel has a lavish lobby, large restaurant, and well-designed rooms, making it look and feel premium.
Good Location – It is close to the city center, making it convenient for business and leisure travelers.
Covered Parking with Solar Panels – A sustainable initiative, offering covered parking with solar panel roofing.
Spacious Rooms & Good Bathrooms – Rooms are quite large and well-furnished, and bathrooms are clean and modern.
Decent Food Quality – The restaurant serves good food with a variety of options.
Cons & Issues Faced:
Rooms Smell Strongly of Turpentine – It seems that the rooms were recently painted, and since the windows are sealed shut, there is no way for fresh air to circulate. This makes it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.
Lack of Ventilation – Because windows cannot be opened, the air inside feels stuffy and uncomfortable.
Mosquito Problem in Balcony Rooms – The staff was helpful and upgraded me to an Elite-grade room with a balcony for fresh air. However, keeping the balcony door open let mosquitoes in, making it just as uncomfortable when I had to shut the door again.
Final Thoughts:
Hotel Grand Canyon has great potential, but better maintenance and attention to guest comfort are needed. The lack of ventilation in the rooms due to sealed windows is a major downside, especially after recent renovations. While the staff was accommodating, the hotel could benefit from better air circulation solutions or at least an option for fresh air in rooms.
Would I stay here again? Maybe, but only if they fix the ventilation issue.
