My family and I stayed at Ilba Rooms Hotel in Ragusa for five days. Unfortunately, our experience with the hotel’s management was deeply disappointing. Upon arrival, we discovered that the hotel is located in a restricted driving zone (ZTL). Unaware of this beforehand, we parked outside the restricted zone and carried our luggage to the hotel in temperatures exceeding 40°C (105°F). The heat was oppressive, and the distance was significant. At check-in, we were informed that the hotel could issue a special permit allowing us to drive directly to the property. We provided our vehicle information to the front desk attendant, who assured us that the necessary paperwork would be filed. On the morning of our departure, I confirmed with the desk staff that the permit had been properly submitted. They assured me that everything was in order. Based on this confirmation, I retrieved our car, drove to the hotel to load our luggage, and promptly left the restricted zone. This was the only time we entered the ZTL. Over a year later, I received a registered letter from the Italian authorities imposing a substantial fine for driving in the restricted zone. Upon contacting the hotel, I learned that they had mistakenly filed the permit only through the day before our departure. I requested that the hotel take responsibility and pay the fine, as the error was entirely theirs. Initially, Giuseppe, who introduced himself as the owner during our stay, assured me over the phone that he would handle the payment. However, in subsequent email exchanges, I was directed to contact the Italian authorities instead. The authorities, in turn, referred me back to the hotel, stating that the fine could not be dismissed and should be paid by the hotel. After months of frustrating back-and-forth communication, the hotel ultimately claimed that the fine was my responsibility. To make matters worse, Giuseppe stopped responding to my calls and appears to have blocked my number. This experience was profoundly disappointing. The hotel’s dishonesty, refusal to resolve the issue, and poor handling of the situation were appalling. The mistake was entirely theirs, and their unwillingness to take responsibility is unacceptable. Based on my experience, I strongly advise avoiding Ilba Rooms Hotel at all costs. While the hotel itself was passable, there were several additional issues: -The hotel had an overwhelming and unpleasant odor that made the space uncomfortable. -The breakfast was subpar and clearly cost-cutting, featuring poor-quality fruit, cheap juice, a handful of almonds, and a small, unappealing croissant. The cappuccino was disappointing, as the staff member preparing it seemed untrained. This was particularly disheartening in Italy. -Worse, the dishes were dirty, and food appeared to be reused. On one occasion, we noticed food served to us that had been left on other guests’ tables after they departed. This was deeply concerning, and we avoided the hotel’s breakfast en
