Riad Dar Mayssane is located fairly close to one of the main entrances into the medina. I was dropped off on the main road and pointed in the direction of the riad. There were plenty of people around to assist me with exactly where it was and one man kindly took me directly me to the riad. Once you are initially shown its location, despite it being in the medina, finding it again isn’t a problem. Hidden behind its imposing front wooden door was an oasis of calm. I loved the riad from the second I stepped inside. The staff were very welcoming and I was provided with a welcome drink and some biscuits. I was given a room on the first floor. I don’t actually know it’s name but it had a large built in bath tub at one end and the bed at the other. The room wasn’t air conditioned but that didn’t bother me. I was able to keep it at a pleasant temperature. The windows have shutters which can be closed at night. The room facilities were good. I stayed two nights and it would have been nice to have had my room refreshed for each day I was there, straightening the bed, emptying the rubbish bin etc. This didn’t happen but could have been due to the fact that the main doors into the room were secured by the guest with a padlock and so maybe access was a problem for them. It was only a minor issue but as a solo traveller I feel I am always paying a premium for overnight stays. Just these small attention to details in my opinion turn a place from being very good into exceptional. There was plenty of outdoor space at the riad and a couple of roof terraces. I enjoyed reading on the top roof terrace. There isn’t a view to speak of, only the surrounding properties inside the medina but it still a great place to be. The lounging cushions had seen better days but they were still functional. The breakfast included in the room rate was delightful. I loved how the table was decorated each morning and the service and presentation of all the food (very plentiful) was top notch. The riad is located in a great area of Rabat, everything is within walking distance. There are expensive restaurants close-by but if you venture a little further you will discover a much greater variety of restaurants and many far more reasonably priced. Both the seafront and riverfront are only short, and very pleasant walks away. All in all I would recommend a stay at Dar Mayssane. It is an authentic and beautiful riad run by very welcoming staff.
