Pik Palace, Shahdag, Autograph Collection

The hotel is great 5 star. All the amenities and service you would expect from Marriott, however, some issues like the closeness to ski activities compared to shahdag hotel and spa and the snow cannon noise was very annoying outside the hotel, when I requested the hotel they said they were not able to do anything. Also there is issue of room Ac. It does not work and the room becomes very hot due to the heating, you can open the window but the noise from snow cannon is very bad

Pik Palace is a great property for skiing in Azerbaijan. Jasmin did our check-in and she was most charming. A great first contact with the property. Pik Palace has a ski in and out setup, so you get to the slopes directly from the ski shop at the lower level of the property. The ski shop is well equipped and you can book ski instructors as well as rent equipment. They also carry mid-range ski jackets, pants and related accessories for those who wish to buy their apparel at the shop. We booked ski instructors and snow boarding instructors through the ski shop and it was not a problem. There is a general line up at 9 am and you need to get there a few minutes early to book your slots for the instructors. The instructors spoke English and were very good for beginners (my son is learning to snow board and I’m still considered a beginner with some experience). The quality of instruction was attentive and excellent for both skiing and snowboarding noting that this was the first time with instructors for us. We visited first week of Jan and it was surprisingly warm, but the snow on the slopes was still great. Given our inexperience in this area, our advice here should be taken with caution as we’re not experts with ready comparables. Pik Palace has an outdoor heated jacuzzi, which we unfortunately didn’t use. However, it’s a big feature of this property. The buffet breakfast is good with a wide variety of food and selection of fresh juices. However, the all day restaurant and Italian restaurant on-site for lunch and dinner are average at best. Perhaps I’m a bit fastidious with my standards as I had visited Florence, Italy just prior to staying at Pik Palace and my palate was accustomed to a much higher quality of Italian food than what was available in Terraza, an Italian restaurant in a remote town in Shahdag, Azerbaijan, so I’m stating that as a caveat with my remarks regarding food quality for lunch and dinner. The service from staff, Faiq, was really engaged and attentive demonstrating a high degree of customer focus. He served us a few times during our stay and each time his service was excellent! You can avail the restaurants of the sister property, Park Chalet, but we didn’t go there even though the steak house there looked very tempting. Given that you are captive in a somewhat remote resort, you settle for the food as “good enough” and hence my overall rating is high, but there is clearly an opportunity to improve in food quality. It is note worthy to mention the service from Elmira Huseynova, who was exceptional in guiding us and booking airport transfers and referring us to the ski coordinators.
