Amakaya Backpackers & Apartments failed to provide us with a welcoming experience. Upon arrival, the reception staff showed little interest in assisting us, leaving us to figure out everything on our own. The room locks were particularly problematic, as their mechanisms were difficult to use and far from user-friendly. The staff's attitude was outright rude. Their messaging system was filled with unnecessarily long and complicated instructions, making it frustrating to find essential information, like Wi-Fi codes or instructions for the locks. Instead of being concise, they overwhelmed us with irrelevant details. The manager's tone in communications was also aggressive and disrespectful, which only worsened the situation. Our group booked five rooms, and the experience was marred by an excess of negative restrictions rather than useful guidelines. Overall, the unprofessional and discourteous staff contributed to a disappointing and frustrating stay. This was far from the enjoyable travel experience we had hoped for.

The property manager who's name was Debbie treated us terribly. She had bad attitude which was very shocking for a person in hospitality industry. I'm from KZN and often travel to Plett but due to Debbie attitude I will never stay in Amakaya Backpakers ever again.

The place was very underwhelmed and a disappointment. Although it is centrally located, the establishment, especially the main building area was just not up to scratch. We lived upstairs and had to use the shower downstairs which was also used many other guests. The fact that there was no generator put us off, because we had to wait for 2 hours of loadshedding to get our clothes ironed and that made us late. The furniture can be changed because it is old and the so-called lounge area looked pathetic. My overall stay was not that great, glad we only stayed there for one night.

Hospitality was top notch. Room and area super clean. Staff was friendly. Receptionist went out of her way to make people feel at home and even went out of her way to pick me up and drop me off at the bus stop

We had a wonderfull stay at Amakaya backpackers and we do recommend it to everybody. The rooms and kitchen were clean and everything you need is there. We want to say thanks to Debbie. She is the best host we have had in sa. She made us feel very welcome. If whe had questions or a problem she was right there to help us. She even cooked our food when the weather did not allow us to bbq.

Amakaya Backpackers is highly recommended by myself and as well as by my friend Justin. We both go to Plettenberg Bay every year and we only stay at Amakaya Backbackers!!! I rate them a good, solid 10/10!! Location: Very good and very easy to find Rooms: Very comfortable and clean! Service: 12/10!!! Debbi Roth is a brilliant manager and ambassador for Amakaya. She is warm and friendly, super helpful and goes the extra mile to help you should any problems arise. Debbi is a great credit to Amakaya and she will make your stay a fantastic one!!! P.S. This is my own personal experiences from staying at Amakaya, over a number of years. My opinions is my own, I have been very honest, I have not been paid and or given anything in return for my views. I have not been asked to give Amakaya good and or bad reviews what so ever. My review is honest and based on all my experiences held at Amakaya Backpackers Brett Lawrence

This place felt like home far away. From the beach and outdoors to the relaxing vibe of the house, it all was worth it. Initially had a travelling buddy, but the solo experience was definitely something for the books. Thanks a lot to Debbie who’s been amazing since day one - any issue you had, she would fix it.
