Villas on Great Bay Villa Foxie

I have been going to the Villas for a few years now with friends. This year was the first visit since the change in property managers. I love the location as it is right on the beach, has a pool,close to shopping,restaurants and the Great Bay Market is right there for quick grocery needs ($1 a piece fried chicken for lunch is a steal!) The villas are clean, the owners i have rented from are friendly and villas are stocked with basic dishes/pans for cooking and all the linens you need. I have stayed in villas 2 and 4 which is great as each bedroom has their own bathroom. Villa 5 was the most recent stay with a shared bathroom. It would be nice to see furniture updated, but otherwise we had a great stay. I will caution that we have had no issues with other owners and guests when staying here with the exception of Rose in villa 1. She is an entitled owner - who this year screamed at friends who asked a simple question about the laundry, and freaked out when we asked pictures of us be deleted. She rents out a villa and has been known to refuse arrivals because of trace and size. While I caution all about her and will avoid her at all costs, I do not allow this one person to ruin my stay and she is not a reason for us not to go back (I have two more visits planned in next 12 months.

In planning our first trip to Sint Maarten, we chose The Villas on Great Bay for our accommodation. This turned out to be the best decision of our trip. We ended up staying in Villa #7 (“Villa FOXIE”). The individual villas are privately owned, and the owner of Villa FOXIE lives insight in another villa. This ensured us of a villa that was beautifully decorated and meticulously maintained. The owner and the onsite manager were both totally accommodating without being intrusive of our privacy, and when we left we felt like we were leaving new friends behind. The villas are very private, while steps from the beach and close to many amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed much of our down time between our private lounge area, the beautiful water of Great Bay, and the infinity pool of the villas. The Villas on Great Bay stand as the best experience we have had in the Caribbean to date.

I stayed in Villa 7. Rose Marie owns this one. She started out very nice until it was time to check out. She asked if everything was alright and I said, yes, mostly, just a couple things. She immediately got defensive before I could explain that it would be nice to have remote controls for the TV's. She had them to turn the box attached to the TV, but we had to get up to turn the TV on and off. Also, I kindly mentioned we could have brought hand soap, foil, baggies and such had we known she wasn't providing it. I had emailed her before coming to see if we should bring anything and she said the villa was fully stocked. Her pans were awful except for one frying pan. She has the oven all taped up, so it wasn't usable. She did provide a small toaster oven but you can only put so much in there. I wasn't even going to bring all of that up. She got in my face and wouldn't stop screaming at me. I asked her to please calm down, that is wasn't that bad to make such a scene. She has also created a lot of drama and chaos with some of the other owners. I have stayed here many times but not since she moved here. It's a shame because it was always one of my favorite places in SXM. I am a travel agent and have been for 40 years. Date of stay: May 2024 Room Tip: If you do rent this one, take hand soap, foil, baggies and pepper shaker. I would rent from other owners but not her. Stay clear of Rose Marie and Villa 7.

Location; just about perfect. Walkable to small grocery store. Many small restaurants of all types of cuisine, nothing fancy, just beachfront bar/restos but the few we tried were very good. Fine dining restos are a taxi ride away. Unless a cruise ship is docked, many restos close doors about 5 pm if they open at all. The views are amazing, water colours are beautiful blues and greens. The ocean is 15 paces from the villas and the beach is lovely and almost deserted. The steep hills nearby present a nice backdrop but also block views of sunsets. The roads are narrow, very hilly and heavily travelled. Sidewalks desperately need major reconstruction. I recommend cab or bus to get around. The locals were all so polite, friendly and welcoming. Unit 6 appeared cheaply furnished, feathers falling out of well worn pillows on couches but beds are king sized and comfy. Living room has two large clumsy chaise lounges for seating, highly unsuitable and never used. Water pressure was poor and water temperature was never hot enough in the showers or washing dishes. Some fresh paint inside would be a good investment I was unable to figure out how to get good service from the t.v.s. My bedroom t.v. twice came on when no one was there and would turn off when no one was there. Annoying at night. The kitchen is fully equipped and roomy enough. I expected a bit more considering the cost of rental. For these reasons I rate unit 6 at 3.5 out of 5. Serge, the complex go to guy seemed always around when needed and eager to please. I wish he was my neighbour back home. It was great to get home for a long hot shower with more than a trickle of water. Would I return, maybe, but unit 6 would not be a choice
