Have stayed here before so thought we knew what to expect…sadly disappointing this time. First “grumble” was that, in advance of our visit I contacted the Hotel as I have mobility problems. I was told I would be allocated an accessible room but on arrival found 8 very steep steps between the lift and our corridor (room 107). In fairness I managed the steps with a degree of difficulty but do feel that at the time of me asking. I should have been asked for more details as it was a real struggle. I do appreciate fully accessible rooms are in short supply but a little customer service does a lot to avoid disappointment. I’m really sad to say that breakfast was really disappointing compared to last time. Although there was an adequate continental the cooked. Breakfast was meagre and stone cold. We had been told we could only have breakfast at 8am and were the first in the restaurant but mushrooms were absolutely cold. I think you could upgrade to a larger cooked breakfast for an extra £5 but not really the point. Next (and most significant) was our room. It was a bit tired but I expected that from a previous visit but was actually very dirty. I am allergic to house dust and, on getting into bed, started wheezing very badly. I discovered the reason which was the bedside table which was thick in weeks of dust. Please see picture. Finally, when checking out they tried to charge us again for food that should have been included. In summary we were on a deal which we’d paid £119 for but was marketed at being worth £300. It definitely wasn’t worth much more than we paid, £40 per couple for food plus you can book a room for £95 but I wouldn’t have minded that if the room hadn’t been so dirty. On checking out I mentioned the issues and they said they bring the dirty room to housekeepings attention but there was no interest in how they could make this right. We don’t need “freebies” but it would have been nice if we’d felt they cared that we were disappointed. Hopefully future guests will have a better experience but that does little to make up for our disappointment.
