The best thing about this hotel is its location next to the canal. We booked a triple room with canal view. We can see the canal from our room. However, the furniture inside the room and also every where in the hotel are quite dated. My mum said, if anybody can remove the cupboards then that is even better. We parked our car behind the hotel. We were charge 1200yen for the use of the car park. Then there was a charge of 150yen per person for the onsen fee which was collected at the hotel regardless you use the onsen or not. The onsen is located at the central building. So the guests have to transfer to the central building at the 1st floor or 7th floor to get to the onsen. The onsen is quite basic, with only one pool. The laundry room is located at the level 1. Cost is 400 yen per wash and 200 yen per drying. The bad thing is, similar to other feedback online, one dry cycle is not enough - so it’s a waste of time (or money). Tried the lonia restaurant at the level 1 for dinner. It was quite decent although not the best.

The facilities and restrooms are relatively old, and during showering, the water temperature suddenly drops. There is also a shortage of parking spaces.

Canal view is essentially a view of a massive loud road with the canal behind it. Rooms are old, dated and smelly with an entrance door and windows where you need to bend down to enter and see through. Not sure this is even legal! Pillows that are an insult to beds! Wi-Fi doesn’t work! Don’t get fooled by the nice lobby. Onsen consists of just one basin, so the photos are quite misleading! Everything else is probably one of the worst hotels we have stayed at. Only upside is the nice service! They even smiled when we complained about the room!

Old hotel plus hygiene a bit problem. Some black stain and blood stain on bedsheet ,dust on desk and others area,, l have very allergy nose , will not return to stay.

The location is good and convenient. Will stay there in my next trip to Otaru.

The nice hotel in very central location just at the canal. Hotel has vending machine, washing machine and onsen. Downstairs is very nice cosy cafe and grill restaurant. Rooms are very clean. We enjoyed our stay.

location is good , room environment normal . Pillow wads too same , look like not to normal sleeping pillow , it’s come from sofa (square pillow)

Overall I had a nice stay here. They upgraded me to a room with canal view for free. The room was really comfortable. Only downside was it’s located quite far from the station. It took 15 minutes to walk to the station, which was quite a hassle with the snow. The restaurant was quite nice but expensive.

I had a pleasant one night stay at Hotel Sonia. The hotel's location was excellent, situated in front of the Otaru Canal and within walking distance to shopping and dining areas, as well as the train station (though snowy conditions made it a bit tricky). While the hotel lobby looked modern, the room interior felt outdated. Note that late check-out comes with a 2000 JPY per hour fee, so plan accordingly. Overall, it was a decent one-night stay.

That’s very convenient place and easy access to many places .. either for foods or viewing .. just perfect locations and friendly staffs ❤️

Will stay here again if I visit there, Recommended call a taxi to the hotel, street is slippery and take a while for a walk but worth to stay, th view and location is perfect for the carnal

Directly opposite tje Otaru canal and near the canal cruise. Great views.

Closed to scenic spot, with onsen, but the hotel is very old styled.

Hotel is well located along the canal. Good for short stay if focusing on walking around the area. Enjoyed the onsen - indoor and outdoor. The hotel furniture is dated but overall is clean. If you're tall you'd likely have to be careful entering main door and toilet (if staying in South wing). If driving, there's limited parking facilities in hotel (¥1,200). Need to use nearby paid parking. Times is the cheapest at ¥900 for 24hrs.
