Nach einem Karibik Segeltörn waren wir noch sechs Tage in diesem Hotel. Wir hatten eine Juniorsuite, die sehr groß und ebenerdig gelegen war. Vor dem Zimmer war eine Art Loggia, sodass man auch bei den gelegentlichen Regenschauern im Freien sitzen konnte. Außerdem hatte das Zimmer eine komplett eingerichtete Küche. Es gab auch genügend Strandliegen und man konnte zu jeder Zeit eine freie Liege und auch Schatten (bei Bedarf stellt das Personal Schirme auf) finden. Die Drinks in der Bar waren ausgezeichnet und zur Happy Hour auch sehr billig. Das Buffett-Frühstück im Hotelrestaurant ist empfehlenswert. Für das Abendessen gibt es auf dem Hotelgelände noch ein zweites Restaurant - beide sind empfehlenswert; eine Reservierung ebenso. Die Weinpreise sind gemessen an europäischen Standards sehr günstig. Ein kleines Negativum ist, dass es in fußläufiger Umgebung keine weiteren Abendlokale gibt.

Royal Barbados is the fifth Sandals’ resort we’ve been to and it’s now our favorite. We stayed in a Rondoval building with our own splash pool and butler service. Transportation from and to the airport was included, and we rode in a Rolls both ways. The spaciousness of the Rondoval was nice, but its pool was in shade most of the day so stayed chilly. We only used it a few times, but sitting outside on the patio while reading, having a beverage, or napping on the lounges while listening to the waterfall was lovely. Contrary to some others’ experiences, we found the staff everywhere extremely cheerful and helpful. It might be the influence of the new GM, Charles, with whom we spoke both at the loyalty dinner and several times around the resort as he was talking to both staff and guests. He obviously cares about improving things. The beach wasn’t as long we’d expected, and the water rougher. Red flag warnings the whole time meant that taking out a catamaran was never possible. (Of course, weather is beyond Sandals’ control). Other than the wind, and one rainy morning, the weather was glorious the whole time. The infinity pool is definitely the louder one and the bar isn’t swimup; we preferred the South Seas pool, which is quieter and does have a swimup bar. We tried almost all the restaurants, and our favorites were Neptune, Greenhouse, the Merry Monkey and Chi. Ask for substitutions at the restaurants! At the Merry Monkey my hubby requested vegetables with his steak instead of fries and got a huge, glorious helping of asparagus, cauliflower, carrots, etc. For a quick lunch there’s a hotdog stand set up near the bowling alley from about 11 – 2:30. In sum, we kept the booking despite the many negative reviews on social media and are so glad we did!

Good morning all ! Had a booking to return to the infinity in October and just been notified that my booking is cancelled due to the hotel closing. This hotel was a proper little gem and ok it needed sprucing up a bit here and there and a few more staff but I hope they don’t try and over do the refurbishment as it won’t be the same ! And the selling point for this hotel is its position on Dover beach so I hope the owners remember that ! I really look forward to my 2 weeks every October here but now booked into southern palms next door ‍♂️
