The Horse & Groom

This restaurant is a hidden gem - one of our party found it by accident on a previous visit, insisted we should try it and we're so glad we did. A party of four, we enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch. We arrived early (the Cotswolds weather wasn't being kind) but the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and we were seated straight away. The roast lunches were excellent and my wife's food intolerances (gluten and sulphites) were catered for with ease. All the staff were attentive and efficient throughout without ever intruding. Definitely a place to return to.

We loved our stay at the Horse and Groom! Every aspect was well appointed and the hospitality superb. The food was excellent and the service was the best. The location was ideal for our trip to the Cotswolds. We especially enjoyed meeting Warren, Tracy, Joe, Ethan, Keith and others. Hope to return!

The Horse & Groom in Upper Oddington is marvellous! I'd first visited about 6 years ago for dinner and was wowed by the food then. Returning in May 2023, with my husband, plus dad and his partner from Australia, I wanted to give them a great British pub experience and H&G more than delivered. There's new owners who thankfully were able to keep it open despite having just taken over when the pandemic hit (no mean feat given how many pubs/inns are closing in the UK). And they've retained everything that made this place great, whilst also bringing their own touches. We stayed two nights. Rooms are fully kitted out with great treats and amenities. The shower in Room 1 was small but the BEST shower I've had in years of hotel stays - great water pressure, temperature, and lovely smelling shampoo etc. Bed was super comfortable (a little small but nothing to complain about). Breakfast is included and it's delicious - hearty, good quality products and lots of choices. They even very kindly accommodated us being a few minutes later than usual because we had an early start visiting a nearby racehorse trainer's yards. We don't have a dog but it's dog friendly and there were a few in there at night, so worth dog owners considering a visit. Definitely worth eating (and drinking!) in the bar. The bar team are friendly, and most of clientele are locals with good recommendations for things to do and see in the area. The food was fabulous - again, great selection. One of our group loved the pork chop so much she had it two nights in a row! My highlights were the Asian duck salad starter, and the Burger which is huge. Horse & Groom Inn in Upper Oddington was a wonderful place to stay. I only wish I lived closer and could use it as an escape more regularly!

This is one of the nicest places we've stayed at in this area(I've been to over 20 in the Cotswolds) It's the overall package that makes it special. The staff are excellent and work very well as a team. They are friendly, helpful and on the ball. The food was delicious including the liver and the hake. Our bedroom wasn't the most luxurious we've seen but it was very comfortable, had a full size bath with shower, flat screen tv, coffee pod machine etc. It's about 10 minutes from Stow and has the option of being only 15 minutes from Kingham railway station that can be reached direct from Slough. We knew whilst we where there that we'd be going back.

We visited for the Jubilee Bank Holiday to relax and explore the local area, there were lots of positives to staying by here, and a few negatives, on the plus side: The Horse and Groom is in an idyllic location, nice and quiet and surrounded by lovely walks, within walking distance of Stow On The Wold and Daylesford Our room was comfortable and very clean, the Nespresso machine was appreciated! And the room rate was really reasonable Some of the service we received was really great On the other hand: The room looked straight into the car park with people walking past frequently, frosting the windows would make a huge difference! Service ranged from exceptionally friendly and helpful to standoffish and rude dependent on the staff It was unfortunate that the kitchen closed quite early and eating outside was not allowed for some of our stay, so we couldn’t enjoy the glorious weather to the fullest The breakfast included in the price was really basic for this sort of place, all straight from the packet, no different to a cooked breakfast in a budget place We ate in the restaurant twice but wouldn’t again, it was wildly overpriced for the quality in comparison to other local places, the veggie burger and gnocchi in particular were outrageously basic, higher prices are fine but this place isn’t earning them Overall this is a lovely place to stay and a few improvements to the service, menu and room would make it 10/10 :)

The meal in the restaurant of this pub was a delight from start to finish. We were warmly greeted by a member of staff and were kindly seated, as requested in an area where our nervous dog was out of the way. The ladies who served us were very busy but gave us their full attention at all times and always with a smile. The lunch was absolutely delicious and we had a very happy family occasion to which everyone at The Horse and Groom contributed. Thank you.
