My Blue Hotel Zanzibar

Ok hotel on the beach, but could do with a lot of refurbishment. For example the decking around the infinity pool was tatty, had several wooden boards sticking up with screw heads poking out, of which I stood on one. The sand on the lounger area was full of stones with areas of rock poking through, yet the sand on the beach was clean and soft so I couldn't understand why this was not used to replace the dirty stony sand in the main outdoor area, that we had to walk on to get anywhere. The pool bar was always full of insects and leaves etc as it was only cleaned once a day. So, when sitting in the water at the pool bar you were sitting in a stew of rubbish, really not good. The food choice was limited, and not that great. Our salvation was the daily pasta dishes that were cooked to cater for the Italian guests (the majority). This was the last of 4 hotels we had booked for our two week stay in Zanzibar. The room was ok, ie sufficient but nothing to write home about. The staff were friendly but a little disorganised compared to the other 3 hotels. However the beaches around were nice but a lot of people constantly hassling you to visit their shops ot to book a trip with them. They also had a strange system of 4 different coloured wrist bands for various guest levels, ie half board, full board, all inclusive etc. We had half board, b/fast and dinner, but had to pay for everything else including even the local drinks. I deeply regret booking My Blue Hotel Zanzibar for our stay. The hotel’s advertised 4-star status is entirely misleading—the reality was shockingly different. Due to serious health and safety concerns, we were forced to leave after just one night, despite having paid for five nights in advance. Major Issues We Encountered: 1. Unhygienic and Poorly Maintained Rooms Rusty fixtures (mirror frame, sink, shower head) posed clear health hazards. A hole in the room door made part of our room visible from the public corridor! Basic cleanliness was nonexistent: dirty windows, stained toilet, and a generally unhygienic environment. 2. Disgusting Dining and Buffet Conditions Rusty and dirty food-serving items and drink dispensers—serious health risks. 3. Unsafe Pool and Beach Area The area was littered with trash, plastic, and debris. 4. Negligent First Aid Response Despite the hotel being nowhere near full, we were denied any compensation for the four nights we didn't stay at the hotel, which we believe was the least they could do. We had to scramble to find another hotel at the last minute, resulting in extra costs and stress that completely disrupted our vacation. Final Verdict: Do not trust the online ratings! This hotel is nowhere near 4-star quality. If you care about cleanliness, safety, and basic comfort, avoid My Blue Hotel Zanzibar at all costs.

After much research, we settled on My Blue. It was the best decision! The compound was very well maintained, excellent service, spectacular views over the beach (especially from the infinity pool), easy access to the ocean, good food, nightly entertainment, good rooms and bed. The whole place is picture perfect and we loved eating with great views of the ocean! The main area they could improve on is their meals. There’s plenty of food options but not very much really good food. More like a mediocre buffet. There was, however, always varying stations with a chef that were nice additions like the pasta station, pad Thai, fried rice, open grill. Overall, this place is a gem for the price! We’ve already recommended it to friends and wouldn’t hesitate going back sometime with our kids!

So we booked a room for 6 days and they were super kind to upgrade us to a sew view room…they didn’t even know it was our honeymoon so that was really nice from the hotel side….the location is beautiful…staff super kind and caring always with a smile…it made our honeymoon much nicer…furthermore they found out we had our honeymoon and gave us a conplimentary dinner on the beach with flowers and candles it was perfect

The hotel is situated on the beach, with amazing sunsets. The hotel itself is consisted of small houses built in traditional style. The staff is really friendly and the food was very good. The rooms, beach and the hotel complex is really taken good care of. Rooms are cleaned, the surrounding is neatly cared. They offer additional services: trips and massages. I am recommending taking massages, professional and relaxing. Also trips organized by hotel are worth taking. We really enjoyed our stay.

Good chilled 3 night stay, friendly staff and lovely beach and small infinity style pool. Good air conditioning in a large room. Special dinner by the beach at extra cost. Although secret menu isn't preferred. Negatives: Complimentary bottle of water only for the 1st day. Lucky lucky style men on the beach constantly causing a nuisance. Hotel staff unable to control. No snacks available to buy throughout the day.
