The Whistledown Hotel

My wife and I, her sister and husband, visited this hotel to celebrate three birthdays. My sister in law phoned and booked for lunch and requested upstairs with a view. When we arrived we were told we were in the pub part of the hotel. So we were stuck in a corner with a table big enough for two and no view. We waited so long for the drinks to be served it was just prior to the food been served. The girls ordered fish goujons, the fish was covered in about quarter inch thick solid batter and very little fish. They left their meal as unable to eat it, nothing was said as the waitress collected the plates. I ordered a dessert, a apple, pear and almond crumble. It was tasteless, thankfully there was ice cream with it. We certainly would've recommend this hotel for a special occasion or any other type of occasion for lunch, very, very disappointing.

Stayed the night while our son was walking in the Mournes on his Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Thought seeing we were on pick up duties we’d make the most of it. Got a really good deal by direct booking. Room was comfortable and really what to expect. Staff were really friendly and helpful especially those in the Restaurant. Food, first class and with a view of the sea. It would be worth even if not staying just to have a meal here. If you have young kids there a park to the side and gardens to the rear. If the weather is good the beer garden is to the front overlooking the Lough. Will definitely come back and even call in for food.

Sunday Carvery: As a family group of 4 adults we visited the Whistledown Hotel on Sunday 20th April 2025, for their Sunday Carvery, following a recommendation from a friend, and we were not disappointed. The friendly family atmosphere and welcoming staff set a great ambience and of course the main thing - the food - was very good, with a choice of 3 out of 4 meats plus Salmon, and a large counter filled with a wealth of various sides etc. In my opinion it was reasonably priced - around £100 for 4 x 2 course meals with several drinks. We will return and I would have no hesitation recommending this carvery if you fancy a Sunday away from the kitchen.

I was at the Whistledown this morning for a work out and mindfulness. The hotel is a real credit to business owners Sarah and Colum. The room for the workout and mindfulness was spectacular. It was comfortably large for the big crowd and at the same it was perfect temperature for what was required. The service with the variety drinks was efficient, timely, personable and professional. Sarah is ever present to meet needs even before they are expressed. The Whistledown is more than a hotel. Sarah and Colum also offer their premises to enable community building and networking such as this morning. It is also used as a place of comfort and support for vulnerable people such as The Forget Me Not Cafe (dementia). As we are in New Year 2025, the Whistledown deserves all our support at its various levels. It certainly raises the bar on end to end quality of service. It generates warmth through the friendliness and helpfulness which naturally oozes from all you meet. Sarah and Colum through their teams and their own modelling inspires me as they generously hold a space for events that build community and in turn invites us to collaborate with them in supporting the current needs of the community. This was our second time at the Whistledown Hotel. Have to say service was amazing. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, breakfast and dinner were fab. staff were very attentive without being intrusive, our room was very clean and the bathroom excellent. I absolutely love the decor.

We arrived to stay just the night. Our room was ok but very hot and so so NOISY Dinner was excellent - we ate off the specials menu. Our sleep was interrupted down to the traffic outside, heavy/noisy trucks, no let up with the traffic, horns beeping I could go on .. Breakfast was deep fried, everything from the poor quality sausage to the mushrooms. The tea and coffee also disappointing and not worthy of a top up. Time to check out but nobody on reception. Would I return??? Sadly no But dinner was delicious, worth going to the restaurant just don’t stay the night
