Oualie Beach Resort

We booked 10 nights at Oualie Beach Resort, choosing Nevis rather than St Kitts, because we prefer resorts close to the beach that are not over crowded but also not in total isolation. Oualie did not disappoint. The staff are friendly and helpful when needed - the hotel grounds are regularly groomed, whilst the proximity of the accommodation to the sea makes the early morning swim along the beach a must. The hotel food served is good with traditional Caribbean but with limited choice. There are, however, three to four alternative restaurants nearby - although watch out for prices - on line menu quotes omit local taxes that are high and can lead to costly meals at the more expensive alternatives. The hotel offers BBQ on a Sunday afternoon, plus music/live band on Tuesday. The live band was fabulous fun, especially when jamming towards the end of the evening after the main act had left - spontaneous and unrehersed. Rooms are kept clean and air conditioned throughout the day but we turned ours off when out of the room - balcony gave great views of the sea and palms - we were in room 229. Nearby is Lovers Beach - often isolated but stunning - the currents were strong on that beach so we avoided swimming but standing in the warm water chest high was a fabulous experience with the waves washing over. We spent an hour each day on this beach in the later afternoons. To fully appreciate the Isand Car Rental is recommended - a taxi into Charlestown can be up to $20 US - so probably best to book car hire in advance. Be warned about Tourist traps on the Island - there are a few - so check out Tripadvisor before visiting ... ... but do consider Oualie Beach Resort. We loved the location and the staff.

We visited Oualie on a swim trip and could not have enjoyed it more. Nikita and Stacy greeted us warmly, our room was comfy, and the view of the ocean out the front door was unbeatable. The Tuesday night live music was an added bonus as was Germaine the bartender. We loved the low-key nature of the Oualie, and all of the staff

We recently stayed at the Oualie Beach Resort for a long weekend. They arranged our transport from the airport in St. Kitts to the resort (taxi, water taxi) which was extremely convenient - the water taxi dropped us off on the beach just steps away from the resort. While there, we rented an ATV (from Nevis Scooter Rental), which allowed us to travel freely around the island, visiting museums, beaches, hiking trails and the downtown area easily and safely (highly recommend!) The resort is right on the water, and they provide lounge chairs and towels for guests. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the food at the onsite restaurant was delicious - though as others have mentioned, service could be a little slow. The Sunday BBQ was a fun activity with tasty food options and live music. We especially enjoyed all the wildlife Nevis had to offer - you'll see goats, donkeys, cows, monkeys and giant crabs all over the place!

The Oualie Beach Resort was the perfect place to relax and enjoy some rest and relaxation. Pros: *Cottages were nice and comfortable. * Nice screened in porch to allow for sitting outside in shade or at night *Cottage had a small refrigerator and small coffee pot * OnSite restaurant food was delicious and reasonably priced * Resort had activities available ( did not see anyone using them, however) * Water taxi available at resort dock (make advance reservations) * Staff was very friendly and helpful at arranging for taxi service, tour services and general information * Resort had live music on designated evenings * Taxi service available to go to other parts of the island * Electrical plugs same as USA (120 volt) Things to consider: * Resort was very quiet. Seemed like visitors went elsewhere all day. Not much going on there during day. * Bar on site, but no drink service to beach area * Not sure if this is the norm, but resort seemed to attract an older, retired crowd. Not a problem for us, but might be a deterrent if a younger couple or group were looking for a place with similar age groups. * Water was lovely, but beach was small and had as much grass as sand. Not a nice wide, white sandy beach. * Nowhere to purchase snacks/drinks besides the restaurant/bar. * Limited, repetitive menu at restaurant. * Chairs on screened porch, not comfortable for relaxing. All in all, we had a lovely stay, but we were looking for more to do by our second day. We ventured out to other areas on the island and were happy to come back to our cottage at the end of our day for quiet and rest.

Love the cottage, location to beach, pier to St Kitts and restaurant. Very chill place and great staff. Could have better hot water for showers but maintenance was responsive to our request and managed to get warmish water. We’d go back for sure.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this resort. It definitely over-delivers in almost every category (except the kitchen/food department) on its 3 star rating. Staff are very nice, knowledgable, helpful and friendly. Location is great, and the compound is clean, well equipped and nicely landscaped. It's not the "four seasons" down the road, and that's a good thing, as you experience an almost family-like environment (in a good way!), and the rooms are updated and spacious, clean, with all the basics one needs, incl. coffee maker, which means you can have your coffee IN the ocean less than a minute after making it. Special Kudos to the Bartender Terriane (sp??) for the best rum punch in Nevis, the Reception supervisor Sharine (sp?) for her support, and all the staff we interacted with during our stay. We also met the very nice owner John. Sunday afternoon BBQ with live Jazz by local residents is a very cool and relaxing treat, and something very special in St.Kitts/Nevis. I can definitely recommend this little resort for a relaxing and quiet retreat, and we plan be back one day. And if the restaurant food was just as good, even better.
