I had an orientation at UD and did not want to commute from Philly. By the time I decided I wanted to stay in Newark, the good hotels were booked and expensive. The first night was fine, but we didn't sleep great. The next night I woke up at 12:30am to go to the bathroom and noticed a black spot, figured it was nothing, but decided to check it out. Turned out it was a cricket. Then I saw two others. I was disgusted, grossed out, and anxious. When I put a tissue over the bugs, they jumped away and I eventually lost one. There was another bug too that was crawling around. It was disgusting, I didn't even want to walk on the floor, I was scared they were going to jump at me. There are gaps under the door leading the outside to the inside of the room, so bugs can come whenever. I pulled the bedside table out to get to the outlet and there were dead bugs behind it. I was so distraught and uncomfortable and worried that there would be lots more bugs when I woke up, that at 1am I drove an hour home to Philly. I told the front desk person, and she said so what do you want another room, no I want a refund. She said she could only do one night, even though I had 2 nights left and left in the middle of the night because of bugs. I asked to have the manger contact me. Called the next day for the manger, nothing, gave my name and number. My mom called next day, nothing. She was not helpful, never told me when the manager would be back. She said her name was Sam, (coincidentally, my name is Samantha) so who knows if that is actually her name. She said the managers name was Terry, but I've never spoke to him, so again who knows. I would certainly not recommend this hotel. It is gross, has lots of bugs, the staff (at lease the ones I interacted with) do not care about their guests, it is next to an abandoned building, which is off putting, and a bit scary. There were also cockroaches on the walkway steps. Who wants to sleep with bugs, I definitely don’t. It doesn’t need to be a five-star hotel, but needs to be livable, clean, bug-free, and have staff that care.
