I’ve been thinking for several days about what I could write that would do justice to Linden. Quite simply, I think it’s one of the nicest, most comfortable places I’ve ever stayed. As we were there in February, definitely low season, we had the opportunity to get to know two fabulous people at the house, Jennifer, the property manager, and Miss Bertha, who made delicious breakfasts for us every morning. (My husband, who is a Jersey boy, has never been a big fan of grits, but he said if I made them like Miss Bertha does, he’d eat them every day!). Both of these lovely women patiently answered questions we had about Natchez, and it was just delightful talking with them. One of the great things about traveling is meeting people and learning about who they are and how they live, and talking with these ladies was like being with old friends. They are absolute gems! Jennifer helped with sightseeing recommendations and just generally made sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was chilly for most of our stay, but we were cozy and warm. Being a porch person, I was determined to spend time on the gallery despite the chill, and having the coffee bar right there kept us warm with hot tea and coffee. I’m very sensitive to the environment, and the living space made me feel really good. Our room, the Feltus room, was beautifully appointed and my soul felt so at ease there. The room was flooded with light with the shades up and felt so inviting. The bed was so comfortable, too. I don’t think I’ve ever slept on such luxurious sheets. The Linden website says “Come as guests, leave as family,” and that’s exactly the way I feel about the place. I made 2 new friends in a wonderful place in Mississippi, and I sure am sorry that I had to leave.
