Ein nobles Anwesen. Ein Hideaway mit Stil. In den Hügeln um Monemvasia gelegen. Inmitten eines bezaubernden Gartens mit schönem Ausblick. Ein Herrenhaus, einige Residenzen, ein weites Gelände. Stilvoller Empfang, eine nettes Willkommen, viel Personal und eine durchgängige Inszenierung. Vielleicht manchmal ein wenig „too much“, aber nicht unangenehm. Aufmerksam, bemüht, engagiert. Wenn man dann die Geschichte des Hauses liest (das Fotobuch im Shop in Monemvasia gibt wirklich Einvlicke), dann muss man wohl beeindruckt sein. Das Anwesen war 2002 ein Trümmerhaufen, eine Ruine und wurde mit Liebe zum Detail (und viel Kapital) zu einem 5 Sterne Haus entwickelt, das dem Namen Ehre macht. 2 Quellen sorgen für Wasser, der Garten für ein prachtvolles Ensemble und an vielen Ecken finden sich geschmackvolle Details. Das schön inszenierte Pool (neben dem Familienpool) macht die Entfernung zum Meer vergessen. Das Fitnesscenter ist klein, aber okay, die eigene Produktpalette (Wein, Öl, Honig usw.) hat Stil und Qualität. Das Aktivitätsprogramm ist umfassend (Brot backen, Seife kochen, Ernten, Esel usw. ), authentisch und nicht aufdringlich. Service bemüht, aber mit Potential nach oben. Die Gastronomie variantenreich, aber in der Umgebung gibt es authentischeres (und wohl auch besseres). Auch wenn das Personal manchmal unerfahren wirkt und das elektronische Bestellsystem noch nicht fiktionsfrei funktioniert, kann man einen Aufenthalt hier nur empfehlen. Es ist nicht alles Gold, was hier glänzt, aber das Anwesen verdient 5 Sterne und keine Sternchen.

Wir konnten das Zimmer schon um 15 Uhr beziehen. Weil es sehr heiss war waren wir froh für das schöne gekühlte Zimmer. Auch für den Kühlschrank waren wir sehr dankbar. Am nahe gelegenen Strand konnten wir schwimmen gehen. Abends fanden wir in der Nähe ein gutes Restaurant. Die Gastgeberin war sehr nett.

We loved this beautiful hotel. We specifically requested a room with few stairs and a sea view, and we were given exactly that—an antique-filled Ottoman style room (A1) with a balcony overlooking the main square and the sea—perfect for us. We had been worried about having to park outside the town gate and drag our luggage through town, but the reception area is only a few meters inside the gate, and the hotel supplied an amazing porter to carry the baggage to our room. We especially appreciated the comfortable bed with good reading lights, and the drying rack on the balcony. Despite its central location, the room was surprisingly quiet at night, and we could not believe the zillions of stars above. The folks in reception were very helpful and gave us an excellent map and great advice. Breakfast was in a separate building and there was a huge variety of delicious items. Most of the town’s restaurants are only a few steps away from the rooms. We particularly liked Matoula for its great service and beautiful sea view and ate there several times. Galera Gelato was another favorite for their irresistible ice cream. The town is very small and walkable but is not easy for anyone with mobility challenges; the cobblestones and stairs require extra caution. It’s definitely worth a hike up the cliff to see the Upper Town, and outside the east wall to visit the lighthouse. This beautifully preserved town is absolutely magical, and the Byzantino Hotel is the perfect place to stay to soak up its historical atmosphere.

Die Dame des Hauses, Eleni, machte meinen Aufenthalt über meine Erwartungen, indem sie ein süßes Frühstück bereitete. In dieser Saison sind die Frühstücksbuffets in der Regel nicht serviert, aber ich wurde es nur angeboten, weil ich es gefragt. Die Auswahl von Eiern, Toasts, Jams, verschiedene Früchte, Croissants, Milch, Joghurt, Tee/Kaffee, Getreide, Sandwiches, Fleisch. Eine andere beste Sache ist die Lage: direkt am Eingang zur Insel, mit perfektem Blick. Dies ist der beste Ort für alle Menschen, die sich von der Fotografie verrückt fühlen. Ich habe viele schöne Bilder von zwei Balkonen gemacht: eins nach Monemvasia Schloss und eins nach dem Hafen. Das Objekt ist sauber und gut gepflegt. Alle Arbeiter sind willkommen und zeigen Interesse. Ich wünsche ihnen viel Glück im Geschäftsbereich und viele zufriedene Gäste, vor allem diejenigen, die verrückt sind, um Bilder zu nehmen:). We (a family with 2 teenagers) were hugely looking forward to our 3 day stay at Akra Morea - described on its own website as „encompassing high standards of accommodation, and offering security and outdoor activities“. What a disappointment! It seems the hotel has spent all its money on the photographer who shot artful images for the website and a copywriter (or was it a bot?) for its website. The reality is quite different! 1. all ground floor rooms have a view of the cars parked immediately in front their mini patios. Not boutique hotel but rather cheap motel! 2. our room had been done up a while ago but could do with more work - beyond a lick of paint. Grease splatters on the wall of the kitchen. Yuck! 3. beds are extremely uncomfortable. The two singles are much too short to be of use to anyone over the age of 10, too narrow, and even more uncomfortable than the main 4. the bathroom has design challenges. The shower screen is only about 30 cm wide, leaving the bathroom drenched after every shower. When using the toilet, you need to put your feet inside the shower because of space restrictions. Quite unusual to say the least. The smell is as quite unpleasant too. 5. our ‚suite‘ had a kitchen - red mould above the workbench, the whole thing looked 30+ years old rather than boutique hotel, and there were no provisions of even the basics such as a sponge and dishwashing liquid. 6. on arrival, you’ll have to go on on a search for the reception. Should you be in the unfortunate position of staying there, it’s down the steps from the parking lot, behind the pool. 7. breakfast is overpriced for what you get. 8. the sun loungers around the pool urgently need new covers. The ones there are stained and not appealing. The only positive thing is the large pool. In summary: avoid. Hugely overpriced and not at all appealing! You’ll find better elsewhere in the vicinity!
