I stayed in Mirissa for three nights and was always moving around the area, exploring the different beaches, hills, bars and restaurants. So, what I needed was a place to stay that was comfortable, chilled out, relaxed about my own plans and personal. Number One Mirissa provided all of this and more. Upon my arrival, I was met by one of the staff members, Nethika - who greeted me with a smile then and throughout my stay. I must say that the hospitality from Nethika, Chaminda, Kularatne and their manager Susantha was absolutely top notch. Susantha arranged for me an early morning whale watching tour (I saw two blue whales swimming in unison), so if you stay at Number One, ask him to sort you out! Every morning, I was brought my breakfast by either Nethika or Chaminda and it was simple in such a good way. A beautiful fresh fruit platter, an omelette cooked to perfection, pancakes with local kithul treacle (scrumptious), pol roti (coconut roti) and fresh pots of tea every morning. Not too heavy but not too light - the perfect first meal of the day before you go sea swimming, surfing or exploring Mirissa! My room on the first floor at Number One Mirissa was lovely - a super comfortable four poster double bed, with a huge, curtained mosquito net meaning I was protected from any unwanted visitors late at night! The whole hotel is designed in a rustic style, with loads of beautiful artwork adorning the walls of the rooms and the communal areas - classical Sri Lankan/South Asian artwork and film posters. In the room, ample storage space is found within huge, old fashioned wardrobes which contain safes where you can store your valuable items. The bathroom was very clean, with a walk in shower space, a care package with soaps, shampoos, toothbrush etc and had freshly laundered towels for body and hair, which were replaceable at request. There are enough power points to plug in anything you might need to use or recharge and the WiFi is available in each room with a personal router which had decent speeds, more than enough to stream media or make calls. The view from the huge balcony that each room on the first floor has is breathtaking. You are literally metres away and just above the ocean, with the sunrise over the far end of the bay a particular highlight - and you can rest on your balcony taking in the sea views and sea breeze, watching the surfers down below! The swimming pool is also nice, tucked just above the ocean with those very same views enjoyable inside the pool too. Overall, my stay at Number One Mirissa was a lovely stay with the most attentive hotel staff who were always on hand to ensure that whatever I needed or wanted to know was dealt with quickly and very well. If you want a peaceful, comfortable and relaxing place from which to base your stay in Mirissa, then Number One Mirissa is that place!
