Highland Motel

Charged exorbitantly for a pet fee that wasn’t disclosed, room was dirty, smoke detector missing, showerhead taped, and worse, BEDBUGS! The manager actually said “I don’t care!” I should have stayed in my car! Horrible place and service.

The place is full of bugs and the front desk staff are very unprofessional Told them of the bugs that were in my room and basically got told sorry nothing can be done no refund From reading the other reviews I guess this place has a reputation of treating its guests like this STAY AWAY

This place was very outdated and worn but that was not the issue. It was FILTHY!!! Bed sheets stained, curtains too small for the windows and curtains stained, Holes in the walls (3) in our room. No extra TP and our friends didn't even have soap in their bathroom. AC didn't work, baseboards were so thick with brown it was terrible. Chair in the room was so stained you didn't want to even sit on it. No coffee or phone in the room . The 1st room we had smelled so bad. Front desk guy gave us another room and it was terrible. The 1 plus... it had a tv. We were on the road traveling and our friends had pre booked and paid for the room .

I came to North Sydney to purchase my vehicle, our bookings got canceled due to weather so we choose the highland motel for our stay, we went in and got a room, paid, filled out the paper with our name and number, and before we left the man gave us a small heater, we proceeded to our room, we walked in and it was cold, smelt mouldy, the paint on the walls was outlined around the furniture, the toilet was painted pink, the tub was filthy, the curtains was hung with hooks, the floor was sticky, and mould in around the windows! The microwave wasn’t fit for a rat to live in . We refused to stay there after seeing the room, I went back in and told this man we made other arrangements for the night I’d like to have my money back (only being there long enough to see how dirty it was) and he refused to give me my money back, he told me the owner wouldn’t allow it, so I asked for the owners number, he wrote it down on the receipt, I called it and he wouldn’t answer, so I blocked my number and he answered (come to realize it was the man at the hotel) when he realized it was me he hung up on me !!!!!! I don’t recommend it, very unprofessional, disgusting, gross, a complete waste of money and time !

The room was very clean and tidy, which is not always the case in motels. The guy at the reception was very professional. The motel is in 6 minutes by car from North Sydney and its beautiful Indian Beach.

My introduction to Highland was the desk clerk telling the woman in front of me, who spoke with a Quebecois accent: "I can't understand a word you're saying." Eventually, her gruff husband made their complaint understandable, but the mood was set. The cheerful housekeepers balanced out the sullen young man, and the room was at least clean, with a fresh mattress on the bed. The electric outlets were not all working, though, and my laptop, which relies on working electricity was dead in twenty minutes. That's not Highland's fault, per se, but why have outlets if they don't work? The owner did tell me, the next morning, of a nice breakfast place, which "is a bit of a drive"-Bras d'Or View Restaurant, which turned out to be delight. I would stay here again, in a pinch, but will likely look around the Sydney Metro a bit more, before making a reservation.

I had recently stayed at the now renovated Highland Motel and cannot say enough how pleasant my stay was. The manager and staff were always friendly and kind. My room was clean, quiet, new floors, paint, everything. The pictures you see above are old. It is a nice quiet motel, I felt safe as a female, adequate lighting around premises. Room had a small fridge and microwave, air conditioning, bedding was soft, had enough towels, new flooring. The only thing due to the current pandemic was no seating in the main office area or breakfast service - which is understandable given our current health regulations for the covid pandemic. Ohh I have to mention the Wi-Fi worked just fine. I recommend this hotel as a place to stay, good location to ferry, shopping for food or other needs. I will be more than happy to return back.
