Plumbago Guest House

Stayed for 4 nights as a base for my trip to Kruger National Park. Even before my arrival Ilara could not have been more helpful organising airport transfers and trips for me to enjoy during my stay. On arrival I was shown to my bungalow set in their gorgeous garden where I was provided with everything (and more) that I needed during my stay, from toiletries, flowers, fruit, to chocolates and port. Breakfast was fresh and tasty and I had dinner on two of my evenings and the food was the best I ate during my stay in South Africa. No menu but Ilara checked that I was happy with the choices beforehand and it was absolutely beautiful. Ilara and her staff went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable and she even left me to town on two mornings at 3.30am so that I could do morning safaris. Would absolutely recommend Plumbago to anyone and wish them well for their move to their new premises where I’m sure they will provide the same exceptional service.

The Plumbago Guest House is the ideal retreat after visiting the Kruger and Blyde River Canyon. The garden and pool are beautifully kept and we had a great time relaxing by the pool. The guest rooms are very cosy and clean and Ilara and Robbie go out of their way to make their guests feel at home. We enjoyed a great dinner with very good food and wine. The breakfast was also great!

We stayed here at the start of our travel to Kruger park, which is very near. It was a great experience. Ilara and staff did that atmost to create a great stay. Diner and breakfast were nicely served and with much eye for details. We had the two rooms in the garden and both are very well setup. Good bed and little seating area. When we go back I will defenitly be there for couple more days to enjoy there hospitality, Also many thanks to Robbie for the great stories on wildlife in Kruger etc, Hope to be back one day!

Our stay at Plumbago was amazing! Ilara is kind, friendly & helpfull. She informed us even on what to do in certain traffic situations. That was a first for us (even after traveling to South Africa several times) Plumbago is a warm and cosy guesthouse and Ilara is a very skilled chef. All the meals (breakfast and dinner) were perfect and very rich in choice and flavour. We could wait in the sitting room by the fire and enjoy a glass of wine. All the dogs and Mr Shelbie accompanied us, which we loved. The room is perfect as well: spacious, clean and well equiped. The guesthouse is located near the Panorama route and Kruger National Park, so you can enjoy a day out. But it’s also a nice place to relax at the pool or enjoy the garden and tranquility. As we say in the Netherlands “wij hebben Ilara in ons hart gesloten” (which translates as “We have taken Ilara into our hearts”) and love to come back one day to continue our conversations and taste more of her cooking skills.

What a wonderful stay we had here. The suites are beautiful, the food (even for our celiac daughter) was fantastic and Ilara is the best hostess you could wish for! Absolutely recommended! Ilara even thought about Mothersday and gave our two daughters a little present that they could give to me, much appreciated

Thank you Ilara and Robbie for a wonderful stay, we enjoyed every moment of our visit at Plumbago Guest House. We have never experienced the kind of hospitality you showed us. The accommodation was excellent, everything was so beautiful and stylish. Ilari is an amazing cook and we got to enjoy wonderful delicacies. Everything related to our trip was taken care of first class, thanks also to Dirk who drove and guided us to safaris and attractions. We already miss you, we hope to meet again.
