Wir alle erwarten von einem Hotel ein umfassendes, angenehmes Erlebnis. Wenn man jedoch die einzelnen Bestandteile eines Aufenthalts „durchgeht“, ist der wichtigste Teil des Aufenthalts eine angenehme, erholsame Nachtruhe. Dieses Hotel wirbt auf seiner Website damit, dass es eine Klimaanlage hat. Beim Einchecken liest man, dass das Hotel stolz darauf ist, eine Temperatur von 19,5 Grad Celsius für eine erholsame Nachtruhe zu bieten. Wir hatten an der Mittelmeerküste übernachtet, hätten aber um etwa 2 Uhr morgens aufstehen müssen, um unseren Flug am nächsten Morgen zu erreichen. Wir entschieden uns für dieses Hotel, weil es so nah am Flughafen war und uns einen Anschlussflug nach Paris ermöglichte. Wir fanden es auf TripAdvisor und auch auf anderen Websites. Wir riefen an und machten unsere Reservierung. Als wir im Zimmer ankamen, war es sehr warm – 25,5 Grad Celsius. Es ist völlig verständlich, dass sie kein Geld für eine Klimaanlage in unbelegten Zimmern ausgeben wollten. Wir drehten die Klimaanlage gegen 17 Uhr so weit herunter wie möglich und warteten zwei Stunden im Zimmer – das Restaurant öffnete erst um 19 Uhr. Die Temperatur war in den ersten zwei Stunden überhaupt nicht gesunken, aber es war die Hitze des Tages. Als wir nach dem Abendessen wieder ins Zimmer kamen, war es immer noch 25,5 °C warm. Die Sonne schien noch und es war ein sehr warmer Tag gewesen. Wieder einmal ließ ich ihnen den Vertrauensvorschuss. Wir versuchten, ins Bett zu gehen, aber die Temperatur sank nicht. Gegen 1 Uhr morgens, als die Temperatur immer noch 25,5 °C betrug, rief ich die Rezeption an und sagte dem jungen Mann, dass das Zimmer nicht kühl sei und wir dringend schlafen müssten. Er fragte mich, ob ich das Thermostat richtig eingestellt hätte, und ich sagte ihm, dass ich mir ziemlich sicher sei, dass ich das getan hätte. Er war besorgt, dass ich das Gerät vielleicht nicht verstünde, also bat er mich, nach unten zu kommen, wo er mir zeigen könne, wie man die Temperatur auf die niedrigste Stufe einstellt. Ich zog mich an und ging nach unten. Nachdem er mir das Verfahren erklärt hatte, teilte ich ihm mit, dass ich genau das tue. Dieser junge Mann war sehr höflich und sagte mir, er habe keine andere Wahl, als uns ein anderes Zimmer zu geben. Wir wechselten das Zimmer und das neue Zimmer hatte 23,5 °C. Ich drehte die Temperatur ganz herunter, als wir eintraten, und innerhalb von 20 Minuten war die Temperatur um ein halbes Grad gestiegen – wahrscheinlich, weil ich geöffnet hatte und die Luft aus dem Flur durcheinandergebracht wurde. Sie ging nie wieder runter. Wir fühlten uns total elend. Der Mangel an Schlaf machte unseren Flug nach Paris und den anschließenden transatlantischen Flug nach Atlanta sehr anstrengend. Vielleicht war die Außentemperatur ungewöhnlich warm für die Jahreszeit (ich weiß es nicht). Wenn ein Hotel jedoch nicht genug Klimaanlagen hat, um die Zimmer für die Kunden in den wärmsten Monaten des Jahres zu kühlen, sollte es entweder nicht mit Klimaanlagen werben oder schließen und in dieser Zeit keine Zimmer verkaufen. Sie haben die geschäftliche Entscheidung getroffen, ihr Gebäude nicht ausreichend zu klimatisieren. Sie sollten ehrlich genug sein, den Leuten zu sagen, dass sie die Zimmer nicht kühlen können.
