Taveuni Palms Resort

This was our fourth trip back to Taveuni Palms and our first time returning to Taveuni since Covid. Our memories of Taveuni Palms were so amazing that we were slightly anxious to see if much had changed in the time we had been away. I can report that every aspect was as perfect as we remembered with some additional features (eg. an even larger stocked wine fridge among others). If anything, our experience was even better (if that is even possible with the high standards at this place) and we have a new set of incredible memories to draw from as we plan our next return visit! Taveuni Palms is where you come to when you want to experience a truly unique luxurious Fijian island escape which feels like your own Fijian holiday home but fully catered by your own private staff. We have been coming to Fiji for over 13 years which has included trips to other family-friendly luxury resorts such as Vomo and JMC. However, after all these years, I can assure you that nowhere else compares to Taveuni Palms in terms of the impeccable level of service, attention to detail, exceptional food (seriously good) and the sheer beauty of the surroundings. There are only 2 villas which makes it a truly exclusive experience as you feel like you are the only guests staying. In the 4 times we have stayed here we have never seen (or even heard!) another guest even though we were told there were other guests staying. The privacy is second to none. It really does feel like this tropical island paradise is yours alone to experience and explore. If I had to choose what it is about Taveuni Palms that keeps us coming back, it would be the people who make this place what it is. GMs Colleen and Barry make you feel so special and that no request is ever too hard and every wish can be easily accommodated. Sia, Veronica, Manoa and every one of the staff work so hard day and night providing a truly 5 star level of service in every aspect from food service and preparation to housekeeping, groundskeeping and activities/recreational management/boat trips etc. We stay in the Beach villa each time as we have 2 active boys who love the private pool and exploring the private beach and house reef. The villa is stunning with the most breathtaking ocean views which you can enjoy from a selection of viewing decks, the gardens are lush and beautifully kept and yes, there is still a chilled bottle of our favourite champagne (Tattinger) on arrival! There is also a fridge full of champagne, superb wine selection (lots of excellent NZ chardonnay and sav blanc) to select from as you please or you can order a cocktail if you prefer. The beauty of this place is that you can choose to do as much or as little as you want. There is paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkelling right off your own beach by simply stepping outside your villa. If there is paradise on Earth, it must be Taveuni Island, and more specifically, Taveuni Palm Resort. Lavish vegetation everywhere, fresh water springs (probably the only tropical place where you don’t need to worry about drinking water or brushing your teeth), waterfalls, flowers, butterflies, and the occasional wild pig in the jungle (I only saw two cute piglets). The underwater world is even better than above the water and probably among the best left on our planet. Many types of corals, fish in abundance, as the island is far from big ship routes and common pollutants. People live close to nature while still having some gifts of civilization, like WiFi at the villa (best in the early morning or late evening). Life feels simple and grounded, and that is why Taveuni Palm Resort is such an amazing gem. A luxury private villa with its beach, pool, terraces, and many places to relax. You wake up to a beautifully decorated table with flowers and everything freshly cooked from scratch (you tell them your preferences in advance, of course). I thought I hated coconuts my whole life, but here I tried them savory with lime and salt, crunchy and fresh, and I loved them. You learn to live on “Fiji time” – calm, relaxed, and happy. You feel embraced like part of the best family in the world. They organize tours around the island: to waterfalls, natural water slides (bring water shorts unless you want your bum scratched), villages, viewpoints, and even the date line. They can arrange boat rides, fishing, snorkeling, and diving (the dive shop they work with was excellent and safe). Rash guards and reef shoes are always useful, but here I also learned that rash pants can be handy (hello, natural water slide). Or, if you prefer, you can feel like the only person on the island, quietly staying at your villa to eat, swim, or watch the sunset. They also offer spa services, but I was so busy with everything else that I forgot to try them—something to save for next time. P.S. No mosquitoes! Maybe because it was the dry season (winter), and the resort also burns aromatic sticks, but I didn’t get bitten once, and I’m usually miserable from mosquito bites. P.P.S. The resort is only five minutes from the tiny airport, so the trip from plane to villa is almost nonexistent. They even check you in and bring your luggage while you wait in comfort. You won’t find that kind of service anywhere else.
