I had stayed at this hotel on a previous occasion and everything was fine. However, on this occasion the experience was terrible. Why? On entering the room, there was an unpleasant smell which was quickly traced to the bathroom where the shower curtain stank. I went to reception to complain and I was offered a different room which I accepted. On entering this second room it too had a foul smell which was traced to the shower curtain: it stank and the odour was exactly the same. I returned to reception to complain, The duty manager said that the company had changed the sanitising agent and that other customers had also complained about the smell. It was a smell that I had previously encountered at a different Premier Inn hotel and so I knew that it wasn't the sanitising agent. I asked the duty manager how the shower curtains were laundered and he said they were washed at 90C. This would have removed any odour, so clearly, my experience showed that the two rooms had shower curtains that hadn't been frequently washed, thereby demonstrating that this particular Premier Inn operated with poor house-keeping and that this wasn't being monitored. I asked the duty manager if he would like to come to my room to smell the curtain, which he did, and said that the smell was of the sanitising agent. However, I felt obliged to stay. After a short walk, I returned to my room and felt that I would have to remove the shower curtain and leave it outside the room, and so I returned to reception to present this idea. At this moment, the duty manager brought out a freshly-laundered shower curtain which was still damp. I smelt it and it was super-clean, and so he removed the offending curtain and hung the clean one. Hey Presto! problem resolved!
