The Royal Lion Hotel

I walked into the Royal Lion Hotel with my Father and Son on the 22.9.24 hoping to have a nice Sunday meal. We sat at a table and proceeded to look through the menu. I was conscious that the table was rater sticky and there was also a few annoying flies hovering but concentrated on choosing my meal. When we had decided what we wanted i went to the bar to order. I was told there was no Sunday roasts left, that I was fully prepared for as it was 18:30 but that everything else was available. I was also told there was a half hour wait for food as they had a large group in that I also fully accepted. I ordered 2 x Slow Cooked Pork Belly £22.75 & Chargrilled Double Cheeseburger £17.75 and had a drink to pass the time. After waiting over an hour and noticing that people who had ordered after me, eating their food, I caught the young barmaids eye and she came and asked if we had received our food yet, I told her we had not and she said she would go and see what was going on. The Barmaid returned a few minutes later Apologising saying that the kitchen had lost our order and asked if we wanted a bowl of chips, I politely declined and informed her we would take our custom elsewhere. I left the Royal Lion in Lyme Regis never to return. Apart from the dirty, sticky tables and the abundance of flies that were hovering around the extremely poor customer service that was totally unacceptable just topped of my experience at The Royal Lion in Lyme Regis. I would therefore give this establishment a 1 star rating.

My wife and I have just returned from a week at The Royal Lion Hotel and we must admit to being extremely disappointed with the room. We chose a deluxe room with sea view and a balcony. The cost was £340 per night bed and breakfast which we thought was rather expensive but we would treat ourselves. Upon first entering the room we were very disappointed with the size of the room( on one side of the bed there was barely 30 cm to the wall), and also the sea view was in fact only a partial view obscured by a very large tree so the view from the balcony was in fact over a public car park and rooftops! There was also very little drawer space so because we were staying a week we had to live out of a suitcase! To add insult to injury, on our final morning the shower stopped working properly and it ended up a trickle! There were good point insofar as the staff were extremely pleasant and the pool was excellent - it was just that we felt it dramatically overpriced. We also discovered upon returning home that although we chose ‘flexible’ option, full payment was taken four days before we arrived. In fact we travelled along the coast a few miles to Sidmouth and the two 4* hotels directly on the seafront had dinner, bed and breakfast offers for less than we ended up paying for our stay at The Royal Lion.

Was nice and clean, but overpriced for a one night stay Breakfast was just ok Evening meal was nice and staff we're lovely Quirky inside too, nice wine and beer Parking available if you get there at the right time. Centre of Lyme Regis, which is good

Having stayed and eaten there many times in the past the four of us went for lunch on Friday 13th ! We all went for the fish, chips and peas with tartar sauce. All we got was BATTER the actual amount of fish was minimal and the peas were in the tartar sauce container. At over £ 17 ahead l complained and they dropped the bill by £8 for the four of us. Will not be going back again ! ! !

A pleasantly old style Historical hotel , very well managed with some special airy rooms, best ever full English breakfast, quick service..parking on site, wonderful private swimming and jacuzzi after a long journey. Amazing location by the sea!

Went for Sunday lunch with our son on his birthday. Service was okay but initially we received the wrong order. When the correct order eventually arrived the beef was incredibly tough but our son enjoyed the chicken. I asked for English mustard which never did arrive. We were in Lyme Regis for the week and this was our first meal, a disappointing start. We wouldn't return.

Really lovely hotel right in the centre of Lyme Regis. Parking onsite is a real bonus. The staff are really friendly and rooms are spotlessly clean. We booked to use the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, which you get to yourselves which is really lovely.

Went for dinner was so lovely and staff were also really nice, could not recommend more. The food came out quick and it was delicious will absolutely go here again for dinner and other meals, 10/10 don’t miss out, go here. Decor is also very traditional and nice

We had a wonderful meal there last weekend with our 3 children and grandparents. Lovely helpful waitresses. The roast was absolutely delicious, yorkshires are huge and unlimited as was the Panna cotta dessert. Toilets were clean. Would highly recommend.
