We stayed at Mattei’s Tavern from May 2–4, and sadly, it was our most disappointing visit — despite being our third time and the most expensive at $1,500 per night. One of the major issues was the presence of two large weddings during our stay. We were not informed in advance that these events would be taking place, and they completely overtook the common areas. It was nearly impossible to find a quiet place to relax or socialize. Finding our way back to our room with all the “private event” signs was even difficult. Our room had issues (a dirty towel and pillow, hole in the comforter, and noise from the room above late into the night), and the steam room at the spa was unexpectedly out of service. We also had billing problems at check-in and check-out, and the staff seemed inexperienced and unprepared. I reached out to the hotel twice afterward (directly to management and through the contact form) and never received a response. For a resort that claims to be five-star, this experience fell well short.

The hotel is just far enough from the main part of town to be quiet and relaxing, but close enough to walk to all of the shops, restaurants and tasting rooms. The room layout is great. The bathrooms are very separate from the sleeping and sitting area. When I called for the reservation, the woman I spoke with encouraged me to spring for an upstairs room. I'm glad we did, as it came with an outdoor patio that had a nice sitting area and fireplace. Being upstairs made it very private, and we were able to look out at the hills. The beds very extremely comfortable,and the amenities were fantastic. Housekeeping was very through and flexible with our comings and goings. The staff was friendly, and remembered us when we would was by.

The Inn at Mattei's Tavern features a beautiful property. The Tavern is really lovely inside and outside and the food and wine selections is great! The guest rooms are really nice and the venue was perfect. We enjoyed our son's wedding immensely!

We stayed here with a Backroads group, and overall loved it. The staff were fantastic from check in through meals. We were grateful to have a room in the inner court area, so our room was quiet and felt really cozy. The room was beautiful––it was spacious and very stylish/soothing, and the bed very comfortable. The pool area is fantastic, though the signs about diarrhea are a little off-putting; we did not see them at any other resort. We really enjoyed the easy access to town, and the history of the main house is so interesting! Our meal was family style and honestly was not great (chicken was bland, and fish a bit smelly), though breakfasts were. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would come back for the relaxed and beautiful setting and fun location.

The Inn at Mattei's Tavern is a beautiful place but it doesn't work. The staff is friendly but not helpful. For example, we asked that they bring us ice at 8 am each morning. It took two or three telephone calls each day to get it. We left a package to be sent fed ex. They said they would do it but, again, nothing happened for four days after we left before it got going. The layout in the bathroom gives almost no space at all for toiletries. When we arrived for breakfast, it took way too long for them to bring us water and take our order. There have to be better places there.

Wonderful place for all! All Inn and Tavern staff so professional and accommodating! The grounds are lush with well maintained greenery. Perfectly situated so you can walk into town and also very close to wonderful wineries. Recommend to all for a taste of old California history!

Truly wonderful hotel. My mother and I felt so well taken care of during our visit. We especially loved our cottage and our facials at the lavender barn. The beds were extremely comfortable and housekeeping services were seamless. Dinner at the tavern was delicious! We would love to return!

This was our second stay at the Inn in the past year. Both were pretty close to perfect. The remodeled rooms are really good, considering the amount of space they have to work with and how rustic it was before. You are window-to -window with some of your neighbors in some of the rooms. But, overall, it's a really beautiful setting. Staff are friendly and professional. The food at the Tavern is very good. And you're a short walk to the best part of Santa Ynez. Great for a weekend getaway. Get an upstairs balcony king suite room if you can, as they have both indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Room 125 in building 12 is a good example. We will definitely be back.

We lived Mattei’s and will return as soon as we can. We were there for a work conference but felt like we were on vacation. The staff are incredibly friendly, the food and wine delicious, and the setting is so relaxing and stunning. Can’t wait to return!
