Time has not been kind to this marvelous art deco building located on Sloane Ave, Chelsea, not far from Kings Road. They advertise “luxurious” apartments and while there may be some, ours and three others I viewed, were far from luxury. We initially booked a studio but what you see is not necessarily what you get. Once we arrived we were able to upgrade to a 1 bedroom apartment. I was kindly given my choice and shown 3 other apartments on the first, third and fourth floor. Cleanliness, or the lack thereof is definitely an issue. I normally give both hotel rooms and apartments a quick wipe down with bacterial wipes when we arrive, regardless of the accommodations ratings. However, I was shocked as to how much dirt came up with the wipes. The apartment has the basics but nothing that makes it luxurious. No coffee pot but there was a kettle and a French press. Absolutely no space in cabinets to put any purchased foods or kitchen necessities. No laundry detergent was provided but a small bottle of dishwashing liquid, some pods for the dishwasher, one kitchen towel and a very small sponge. Two rolls of toilet paper are provided at the beginning of your stay. The glaring anti-luxurious amenities include broken window panes, stained carpet, stained upholstery on both couch and chair. The couch is terribly uncomfortable, like sitting on a rock. The lighting is recessed in the ceiling only and there’s a bulb out in both the living area and the bedroom. The bedroom does have two sconces on either side of the bed which adds some ambience which is missing in the rest of the apartment. However, only one night table with two drawers for one side of the bed, all other clothes can either be hung up or stay in your suitcase. There’s a worn throw at the foot of the bed that needs a good laundering. There’s a washer that looks like it’s been taped into its storage closet but it works. There are no instructions anywhere for the washer so we had to look up the manual online. We had a rough idea how it worked but there were a few things we needed clarification on. There is a microwave but I’m 5’4 and it’s too high to safely let me take anything out of it that’s been heated. There are no basics such as sugar, salt and pepper or tea. There was supposed to be a welcome basket of these things but we never received them. The bathroom you enter at your own peril. There is both a bath and an overhead shower but climbing in to either is a challenge in both maneuvering and balance. The toilet sits so close to the tub and the glass partition that it makes it difficult to safely enter the tub or shower. The glass partition opens about 8 inches before it hits the pedestal sink. You get two bath towels and my hand towels for two people for 7 days. There is a towel warmer which you can hang your towels on but not another single hook or towel rack anywhere in the bathroom and limited places to place any toiletries. There is plenty of room for hooks either on the door, to the l
