The Sanctuary -Private Pool Villas

A wonderful week at Sanctuary Villas with Josie and her team. From a warm welcome by Josie and Danny to all the other staff always with a smile and willing to help they made our stay fantastic. The villa is in a great location - we hired bikes with our two kids on the back of them so a few mins to each side of the island and really near the play cafe (highly recommend this if you have kids!). The pool is fabulous - a real treat to escape the heat and humidity and the big open sitting area/kitchen was perfect when the rain came as somewhere we could play with the kids without being stuck inside a hotel room. Breakfast is a la carte ordered the night before which sounds restrictive but they have three great choices of main, with a fruit platter, juice and tea/coffee and it was delicious! They were also so willing to do extra bits for our daughters when we asked so thank you. Our bikes were wiped down and waiting for us each morning after the rain and they also have a babysitter available for a small hourly rate who was lovely with our girls when we went diving. There is a water machine in each villa which is a great addition and the aircon in each bedroom was very effective. The bathroom and sitting area/kitchen are all ‘outdoors’ so no closing out the element (or bugs) but this made the stay even more fun showing our 3 year old the harmless centipedes and the frogs at night by the pool. Provided a clean and fresh baby cot and baby high chair for us ready on arrival. A really lovely place to stay and great value - thank you Sanctuary Villas!

Choosing Gili Sanctuary could be the best decision you'll make while planning your stay on Gili Air. The villas have everything you could want, including kitchen facilities if you fancy a night in. The private pool makes it absolutely outstanding. Tony and his staff are so accommodating and attentive, doing everything they can to make your stay special. The breakfast was great too. I'm looking forward to booking another trip back as it definitely won't be the last time I'm there

We had an incredible stay here! The villas are beautiful with an indoor/outdoor concept and a private pool. Breakfast is delicious and delivered every morning at a preselected time either inside or to enjoy by the pool. The house is clean, comfortable, and spacious and the villa feels private. Great, quiet location, within easy walking distance of anywhere you'd like to go on the island: beach, restaurants, you name it. Most of all, the staff here are incredibly kind and generous. They were wonderful to talk to, gave us great recommendations, and were extremely helpful in every way. My only sadness is that we weren't able to stay longer: I'm already dreaming of returning! If you get a chance to stay here, do it!

I spent a couple of nights in this beautiful villa with my partner. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and clean. We loved having our own pool it was a perfect way to cool down and relax before exploring the island. The staff were amazing they catered to our every need and we felt totally spoilt. If you want a relaxing holiday I would highly recommend staying here.

It was a wonderful stay in paradise! Loved the rooms and the warmhearted Staff! We loved the lovely interior design of the premises and rooms. A beautiful garden with pool invites you to linger. Here you can find peace and relaxation. The Gili Islands have been the absolute highlight of our trip to Bali. Looking forward to next time!

Pros Struggling to find some… Spacious villa Service friendly Quiet location Cons Generally villa needed a lot of updates even for a remote island. Especially for the price they are charging, it lacked basic amenities. It had serious cleanliness issues in the bathroom and pool areas. As most of the reviews are generally 12 months old can only assume there has been a change in management. There are much better places to stay on the island. Some of the issues to note that would be expected at a four star accommodation: * Filthy bathroom, outdoor shower set over rocks that were full of green algae and needed cleaning. * The water pressure is extremely low, not consistent with others on the island. The shower head needed to be desperately cleaned. The bathroom (non outdoor) had a smell of a mens urinal. * The bathrooms lacked basic amenities of renting a villa including toilet paper, shower gel or Handwash. The towels provided were old stained and not changed at all throughout the stay. * Whilst we paid for a private pool and photographed well, the pool was cloudy and we would not have gone in it. We asked for it to be cleaned but it didn’t look any cleaner, just some chlorine granules thrown in. The pool needs to be drained and deep cleaned. It’s such a shame the pool was not usable for the duration of the stay. * The decking area around the pool was also a health and safety hazard , loose and uneven. * The bedrooms were slightly better quality than the other areas. The downstairs bed was comfortable, the upstairs one a little firm but clean and basic with some good quality pillows and soft furnishings. * The bedrooms didn’t have any vanity areas or mirrors and lacked a basic hairdryer etc the lighting was also very dark and lacking adequate lights in the evenings. * The aircon worked well in both bedrooms but was not present in the living/seating areas where there were 2 poor quality loud fans * The living room and kitchen were beyond basic, lacking any comfort in the sofa area and any amenities in the kitchen. There was a working fridge and water cooler that didn’t work properly. * The Breakfast included was well intended, basic and efficient. There are nicer places to eat on the island and we enjoyed kopi su su, gili coffee roasters and pachamama to name a few To summarise, really basic accommodation that in high season (July/August) the price is daylight robbery and would highly recommend staying else where. There are lots of luxury options at this price point. Luckily we had other places to stay before and after here that offered the comforts you expect at this price. We were so disappointed with our stay here so wanted to make sure the review was comprehensive so that others didn’t experience the same. Also added 3% on the cost of the holiday when paying by card at the destination which is unusual when booking through *********** DO NOT STAY HERE !
