Schönes Hotel mit einem sehr guten Bett und freundliches Personal. Unser Zimmer hatte Blick auf den Fluss und das Zentrum, es war ruhig und wir gott ein gutes Nachtslafen. Ein sehr kleines, aber sauberes Badezimmer (hatte einen Haartrockner). Gott Größe Essensbereich und sehr schönes Frühstück. In der Nähe von Geschäften, Restaurants, Pubs und einem Gasstation. Viele Straßen treffen sich hier, so mehrere Optionen zu wählen, wenn Sie die Westnorwege sehen möchten.

We went to Stranda for a fjord race, so we stayed there for 3 or 4 nights. It was the only hotel option in Stranda but they could do better. The hotel is, overall, old and neglected. It seems they aren’t interested in doing any better. And they send us to a especially old room with humidity in the selling, old bed and a 80´s bathroom. Cleaning is not available on Sundays (!) and since they had some young guys working nobody could serve alcohol. We had to go to the bar. Even if we were having dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast is very limited and poor. Access to the sauna and pool is always complicated. Everything is complicated. In the end it doesn’t seem a four-star hotel. Not even a three-star hotel. And its not cheap. The kids working there were inexperienced but nice. Probably the best part of the hotel.

Der Platz am See, die tolle Aussicht auf die Berge... das Weiss des Hotels - ein paar Klischees erfüllt dieses historische Hotel schon. Und erst recht der Speisesaal, in dem ein vielfältiges und qualitativ gutes Frühstück angeboten wird. Abendessen musste vorher reserviert werden, und das war dann auch sehr gut. Überhaupt war der Mailverkehr mit den Besitzern im Vorfeld sehr herzlich. Die Abstriche sind halt dieselben wie bei fast jedem historischen Hotel: Mein Zimmer im Hauptgebäude war eher klein, Steckdosen wenige vorhanden, das Gebäude eher hellhörig, was allerdings keine Rolle gespielt hat, da die Gäste insgesamt sehr rücksichtsvoll waren. Wäre der Ort nicht so toll, würde ich den Preis wohl nicht zahlen, der für eine Übernachtung aufgerufen wird. Die positiven Aspekte überwiegen.

The host wasn't around when we arrived, but there was a phone number at the reception hut and things were sorted out quickly. The cabin is lovely with good facilities. Nice surroundings close to the water. There were no nearby restaurants open during this time of year (10th September), so we went to the supermarket to buy some groceries to cook dinner.  The kitchen is very complete to cook a decent meal, everything is there incl. salt, pepper and oil. Lovely modern and squeaky clean bathroom. Comfy bed and a large sofa to relax and watch TV. Good value for the money.

Hier sollten Sie beim Buchen darauf bestehen, dass Sie ein Zimmer mit Blick in den Fjord bekommen. Dies hatten wir leider nicht, wir sahen hinaus auf den Parkplatz bzw. ein Anwesen eines (so hoffe ich) Hotelmitarbeiters, denn sonst wäre der Blick von diesem kleinen Haus auf das Hotel eher nicht die top Aussicht in Geiranger. Festzuhalten ist, dass das Hotel deutlich in die Jahre gekommen ist. Erinnerungen wurden wach an DDR Hotels vor 40 Jahren. Ich halte ganz klar fest, dass ich nicht von Sauberkeit rede, diese war grundsätzlich relativ vorhanden (sieht man von den Fugen im Badezimmer ab), aber es ist ein Charme, der mehr als verblasst ist. Aus meiner Sicht müsste man einen kompletten Neubau hinstellen. Zum Abendessen gibt es zwei Informationen: Entweder Sie gehen à la Carte essen, oder sie gehen Buffet essen. Die meisten Hotelgäste entscheiden sich für das Buffet, dort ist etwas los. Wir haben uns für à la Carte entschieden, die Bedienung war unfassbar aufmerksam und hat sich an unsere Zeitvorgaben gehalten. Zur Ehrenrettung des Hotels: Das Essen war von wirklich sehr sehr guter Qualität. Zum Essen ist weiters mitzuteilen, dass wir insofern überrascht waren, da groß auf der Speisekarte „argentinische wilde Shrimps“ angekündigt sind. Wir waren in Norwegen, wir haben in jedem Lokal einheimische norwegische Shrimps gegessen. Mir kann kein Mensch erklären, warum argentinische Shrimps in Norwegen, wo die Shrimps faktisch vor der Haustür einzufangen sind, serviert werden müssen. Geschmeckt haben sie nicht so, dass ich diese in besonderer Erinnerung habe, eher im Gegenteil. Weiters aßen wir rohen Lachs in einer Art Reis-Nudelsuppe, hier hat der Koch wirklich sich etwas interessantes einfallen lassen. Zu finden war in dieser Reis-Nudelsuppe noch Spargel und hart gekochte Eier. Es hat interessant geschmeckt, optisch eher etwas ungünstig ausgesehen. Bestellt haben wir dann noch ein Steak, dieses war eher in der unteren Kategorie zu finden. Gezeichnet Peter Nemeth
