This hotel has been a place we have been staying at for several years and have always recommended it to friends. This was our 1st visit since it has changed hands and it will sadly be our last visit. Whilst the staff were lovely and helpful, especially the 2 lovely lads on reception who have been there on our previous visits (the only reason I haven’t scored it a 1 star), the attention to detail and overall standards have dropped massively. We had the top family room which was dated, grubby and in places damaged. There was a hole in the bathroom wall, a massive dint in the bedroom wall, ripped headboards and peeling wallpaper. The breakfast rooms are badly organised and lacking in cleanliness. On our 1st morning breakfast we sat in the bay window and the window ledge inside was grubby and full of fly poo. The service area is in a corner and is absolute chaos. The toast machine is just stuffed at the bottom of the stairs in a corridor, with stacks of chairs and general untidiness surrounding it, the tables were cramped, it took an age to get butter sachets and clean cups after asking for them. It was quite honestly the worst breakfast experience I’ve ever encountered in a hotel. Parking is now an additional payment which made it feel like a bit of an extra instead of being included. The lovely social lounge areas have also been removed so sitting with a drink in an evening is now not really an option unless you want to sit in reception. We had visited with friends and I apologised to them for booking the hotel as this isn’t what we had come to expect. It seems to just want to ram as many people in as possible without enough staff to provide the care and attention to detail anymore. The Robbins family are definitely missed and made the hotel what it was, it now just feels like an impersonal, lack lustre, grubby hotel. I spoke to another couple, who like us had been regular visitors and they too said they wouldn’t be back due to the nose dive in standards.
