On this trip I stayed in over 8 Candlewood Suites from Idaho to West Virginia. I love the chain, glad it's part of IHG, and appreciate how generally lower cost high value they can be. This one rates as the 2nd worst of the them all. The worst is in Boise, Idaho (another review). The best one, far and away, happens to be in Kearney, Nebraska (still another review). The reason this one rates so low for me is that at $155 for the night (one of the most expensive), the level of detail and general decay of the property is astounding actually. If I had to guess, the property seems like it was built in the 80s or 90s, then at some point was bought by whomever and turned into a Candlewood. I could see that they have the Candlewood look in the rooms, but my particular bathroom (on the first floor) was bad Motel 6 level quality. The caulking around the toilet was huge and dark, the floor was not level, the shower stall was fiberglass and would sink in areas when I stood on it. The soap dispenser was caulked in places and hanging off in places. Really, I could go on. But when you are charging $155 for a night, and other chains in the areas (also IHG) are at $120 for the night, sometime is wrong. Additionally, the public areas (laundry room and equipment, workout room and equipment, halls, lobby, etc.) are just plain dingy, small, and old. Sadly, my advice is to just go to a cheaper chain for the same thing.
