The Old Palace Lodge

A beautifully converted property which is comfortable and well furnished with good facilities. Stayed for my son’s graduation and was convenient for castle and cathedral. Excellent personal service from the staff team and nice complimentary juice, fresh milk and warm croissants in the morning. Have stayed once before and will definitely stay again.

This place is a little quirky . I was excited to stay here. Beautifully decorated to a high standard and immaculately clean. Everything was catered for. We were contacted more than once to ensure we had everything we needed as there is no receptionist on site and after 3pm was given a code to enter the premises. It's on a steep cobbled hill and the parking area was covered in trees. Our car was covered in bird poop on departure but thoughtfully there was a box of car cleaning equipment and a bucket of water to use because of this. Thank you for that! I loved everything about the room apart from the lack of a place to sit and eat our croissant and yoghurt which wss thoughtfully left outside our door at a time of our requst, however I would not stay here again as our lower floor room was located next to the staircase. This meant we heard every step and the place must have been busy because boy did some heavy footed people continue to use this staircase through the night and from early in the morning.. It was really noisy continously. We also were extremely disturbed by voices originally thought to be outside but realised it was coming from the room above us! The people in this room might aswell have been in our room as we could hear every word and they weren't loud!. It seems that the renovation of this old chapel didn't include soundproofing especially when it comes to the window area. The stain glassed window has been separated in the middle where the floor separating the upper and lower rooms have been created this is where the noise came from . It was ridiculous and really disturbing. I believe those above us would definitely have been able to hear us below too ! Great location but don't stay here if you are after peace and quiet and take earplugs if you do.

Stayed in this lovely hotel for 2 nights. We had a large rom with a big window (red room). The hotel was in a great position a few minutes walk from the cathedral & castle. Breakfast was brought to your room each morning The room was cleaned to perfection. I would recommend this hotel

WOW what can I say this place is gorgeous- we stayed in a deluxe room for our 20th wedding anniversary - the room was beautiful- comfy bed and pillows - water milk and orange juice in the fridge- we had warm croissants with jam and butter and a creamy yoghurt delivered to our room each morning- delicious- gated parking and just off steep hill near the cathedral- we would deffo return - 10/10

Every review mentions the lovely windows. We had a really tiny oblong one, which you can hardly open, and it looks onto a roof. No view at all. The room is under the roof, and very, very warm and sticky, even though there are 3 fans blowing away. It would have been nice to have a cooler room in this heat. Location super, but we hardly got any sleep because it was 28 degrees and stuffy. When I made a remark about this to the receptionist the following day, she said "All the rooms are this hot, because it is 30 degrees outside. Sorry for the weather". This was not true: it had nót been 30 degrees that day, and my friend was staying in a room on a lower floor, and that was cool, and had fresh air through a normal window. Of course the hotel can't help warm weather. But it would have been nice if they had said: Sorry, we can't cool your room properly, so we are putting you in another room/giving you a discount.
