Das ist Ihr typisches Hilton Hotel, das Sie in Amerika finden würden, ehrlich gesagt, wenn Sie gerade hierher kamen, Sie würden denken, Sie sind zu Hause. Auch sie haben Einrichtungen wie ein Restaurant, Pool und Fitnessraum in diesem Hotel. Restaurant ist ok, nichts wie das Essen, das Sie wahrscheinlich während der Reise rund um Costa Rica genossen haben. Schließlich war das Zimmer sauber und standardisiert, keine Fuss! Es ist auch sehr nah an allen Mietwagen-Rückkehrplätze. Frühstück nicht mit Reservierung inbegriffen, es ist etwas, das Sie aus der Tasche zahlen. Insgesamt, sehr gute Option für jemanden, der in oder aus dem Flughafen Liberia Intl reist.

Die Anfahrt führt ca. 20 km und ca. 45 Minuten über Schotterpisten die auch für Costa Ricanische Verhältnisse extrem schlecht ist. Die Anlage ist sehr weitläufigen gestaltet und macht auf den ersten Blick einen guten Eindruck. Sie ist am Hang gelegen, sodass ein Transport angeboten wird. Teilweise wartet man darauf schon mal 20 Minuten. Der Bus ist total herunter gekommen, die Sitzbezüge total verschlissen. Die Fahrer waren alle sehr freundlich. Den Bungalow den wir hatten war sehr geräumig und gut ausgestattet. Vereinzelt merkt man, dass das Hotel in die Jahre gekommen ist. Beim Einchecken hat der Mitarbeiter ”vergessen” unseres Kreditkartendaten abzufragen, sodass wir an der Poolbar ein Problem mit der Zahlung hatten, weil wir den Verzehr nicht aufs Zimmer schreiben lassen konnten. Üblicherweise führen wir keinen Kreditkarte am Pool mit uns. Man ist fast gezwungen das teure Hotelrestaurant in Anspruch zu nehmen, weil das nächste Restaurant weit weg ist und nur wieder über die Schotterpiste zu erreichen ist. Die Mitarbeiter im Restaurant waren nicht sonderlich freundlich. Von 3 mal, war das Fleisch 2x durchgebraten, statt wie bestellt medium rare. Mehrere Gerichte auf der Karte waren ausverkauft. Beim Frühstück war die Butter, Marmelade und Milch leer. Auf Bestellung habe ich welche bekommen aber es wurde nicht mehr aufgefüllt. Der Ananassaft wurde mit (lauwarmem)Wasser gesteckt, der O-saft war aus Konzentrat. Für die Butter und die Marmelade wurden die Portionensglässchen wieder befüllt und mit Folie abgedeckt. Es mag ja nachhaltig sein, in diesem Fall wirkte es nicht gerade hygienisch. Die Tour die wir übers Hotel gebucht haben (reiten mit Besuch von zwei kleineren Wasserfällen) war top. Die Poolanlage war großzügig, hatte allerdings wenig Liegen und keine Sonnenschirme. Highlight war wohl die Thermenpools mit Schlammpackung. Alles in allem würde ich persönlich dieses Hotel nicht mehr wählen.

This was my second stay at El Mangroove, and I found it a bit disappointing on both occasions. For the price of this hotel, I would expect the beach that it fronts to be nicer, but the beach is very ”meh” (not the kind of beach with soft sand that one would want to relax on, and there are sand fleas). When I was here in 2018 there were many dead fish along the beach, also. The pools are nice, though enforcement of keeping kids and teens out of the ”adults only” pool was very lax, which made the experience less serene. The food is OK but nothing thrilling, and the dining areas are mostly open air with quite a lot of biting insects. The renovated rooms are nice and spacious, but laid out in an odd way, with hammocks indoors in some rooms in an odd location, no line or place to hang wet swimsuits to dry, and other odd design choices. The gym is tiny and in an outbuilding that is very poorly air conditioned so it is quite hot.

Solo trip over a long weekend, and Golden Palms was a great choice. Pros: - Quiet. This could be because I went during low season, but I twice had the pool to myself in the morning and at night. There was no wait for food, and I had my pick of beach lounges. - Everyone was SUPER friendly, but this is consistent in Costa Rica. - Location is less than 30 minutes from the airport. Also, was closer to Nicaragua for my one day trip there. - Rooms are exactly as pictured, and clean. Beds were made daily, with towels/robes refreshed daily. - Food portions were satisfying. - Property is beautiful upon arrival. I went on a number of tours, and multiple passengers from other hotels commented on how beautiful the property was. - Price was more than fair for where i stayed and the service I received. If back in Papagayo, I'd stay here again, hands down. - Security was checked every time I arrived or left the property. Cons: - Bugs/spiders in the bathroom. I actually didn't complain about this because it didn't bother me, but I can see how it would with other people. - Pool needs cleaning multiple times a day, but wasn't. I'm weird - WEIRD about swimming in a pool with a lot of debris. I did it, but hated doing it. - Restaurant food was ok. It definitely isn't varied. Over my four nights there I tried almost everything, I didn't hate anything. The pancakes I tried the morning I left were delicious, I'd recommend those. - Because the restaurant food isn't exceptional, the location is sort of a negative as well because you're not near anything. You'll have to drive or take a very expensive taxi to eat at other locations. All in all, I enjoyed my time there, and would not only stay again, but recommend it to others looking for an reasonably priced Papagayo/Guanacaste hotel stay
