My husband and I had an amazing stay at the Gateways Inn. We were greeted warmly by Michelle who brought us up to the Miranda room where we stayed. What a gorgeous suite, she showed us how to turn on the fireplaces, turned on all the lights for us, gave us helpful information on where to have dinner. If your looking for luxury this is the room to get. The bed was so comfortable, we kept the fireplaces on during the night and it was cozy warm. The Inn was beautifully decorates for Christmas, highly recommend. Looking forward to coming back in February!

We booked this inn based on the reviews. They did not support the experience we had. We got in late, were given the Viola room on the main floor at the front-key left in an envelope in the open foyer with a note. The corner room with two big windows is very well lit outside - all night long and they don’t have blackout drapes. The pillows were hard and stiff and it was impossible to sleep. I can honestly say the bed is the worst I've ever slept on in a hotel/inn. After the second night I woke up having to take medicine to cope with the back pain. And the bathroom is freezing in winter. But we hoped breakfast would be great - and it was - the second morning. But the first morning we came in for the very limited time it is served (9am-9:45am). At about 9:05 a lady came in and told us the chef was running late but she would take our drink orders. At 9:15 she came in-without drinks - and announced “The chef isn’t showing.” Would have been nice to know since we had a 10am tour reservation. Clearly they weren’t just running late. Would have been nice to have been given the option to wait or get a refund for breakfast the first time when the chef obviously wasn’t even in the building. We’re told we’ll be mailed a check in two weeks to offset the inconvenience.. I guess they don’t process a credit back to your card? Not sure what happened here but they need to figure out a better way to approach a situation like this. On the positive side, the inn is in a wonderful location-very accessible to little shops and restaurants and close to places we wanted to visit. They do supply bottled water which was helpful. And I do have to say the towel warming rack in the bathroom was very nice and they did a good job with daily maid service. But my back still hurts-thus the 2 stars.

My stay at Gateways Inn was overall a pleasure, with a couple of mysteries/things I would have preferred to be different. First, the positive aspects, of which there are many: - location is amazing -- a quick ~1 block walk to downtown - best bathtub EVER! I chose the Portia room, because it had a lovely bathtub with a handheld shower. I adore baths, and didn't expect to want to take a shower, so I figured it would be perfect, and it was! Really amazing tub, filled very quickly, water was very hot, etc. - generously sized, beautifully decorated and comfortable room, with two huge windows, electric operated gas fireplace, and a smallish flat screen tv. - king sized, very comfortable bed. Not super tall, not "squishy", not hard -- just right. - My room, and the Inn in general, were both very *quiet* -- I had neighbors directly next to me, but I never heard them and they never heard me (which is good, since I'm a night owl) - a generously sized breakfast is included - the room was impeccably clean - check in and out were a breeze And then, the mysteries/things I might have wished were different: - check-in and check-out were a breeze, but other than those times and the one breakfast I attended, I never saw a staff member. It felt a bit as though I was in an AirBnB; the key card enabled access to the building (which was essentially locked all weekend after the weekend guests arrived on Friday), and to my room. At one point, I postulated how I'd deal if I lost my key card, or if they became inactive (close to proximity to a magnet, or something like that). - breakfast selections were a bit limited, and further limited for me because of dietary restrictions. When it arrived, it was *extremely* salty. I had asked for no seasoning, but said "salt is okay"; I think that may have been taken not as I had intended it. - there is no "lounge" area at all. The foyer is *gorgeous* -- large, open to the 2nd floor, with a gracious stairway. Further in to the right is the breakfast room (which I'm assuming is the restaurant when it's open for the season), and straight ahead is a bar. I visited others in town over the weekend at their Inns, and saw comfortable living room spaces with couches, games, etc. Gateways has nothing like that, which probably added to the quietness. - the room had a slightly perfumed scent, which I personally don't prefer; but it wasn't overpowering Overall, I would gladly stay at Gateways again. It was very well located for the event I was attending, my room was perfect for me, and I was able to socialize with friends in other ways.

This was our third visit to The Gateway Inn this year. The historic hotel is lovely. The breakfast in the morning is outstanding. Love having a room with a fireplace. Michele makes everyone feel welcome and special. We definitely will be back again.

We just had our son's rehearsal dinner at the Gateways Inn on October 4th. It was an excellent experience and could not have gone better. The food and service was excellent and the facility was perfect for our needs. Every single member of the staff was exceptional to work with and the space they arranged for us was perfect for a rehearsal dinner. Every single one of our guests had a great evening and most importantly our son and no daughter in law said it was a great night and an experience they will always remember. A special shout out to the bar staff as they did a great job accommodating our guests and always had an iced tea waiting for me ready to go! We would strongly recommend the Gateways Inn to anyone who is planning an event in Lenox or Pittsfield in the future. Jason and Ginger Breyo

My son recently got married at The Mount in Lenox. Our family, and much of the wedding party stayed for 4 nights at The Gateways Inn. The Gateways hosted the rehearsal dinner (50 guests) and a welcome gathering (90+ guests) the night before the wedding. We also hosted a post wedding gathering after the reception. Jeremy, the executive chef, went above and beyond to take care of our guests. Every dish he served was SO delicious!! The bar manager and his staff did an amazing job as well, delivering amazing cocktails. We felt at home the minute we stepped in the door and didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. It truly became our home away from home for the weekend. Thank you Jeremy, Michele, Kate, Mark, Dulce, Andre, Suzanne and your entire crew who worked tirelessly to make our stay so wonderful. You truly made it a memorable weekend! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Gateways has been our go-to destination for years. When we saw that Karén would be performing on August 22nd, my husband and I chose to dine at your establishment. Unfortunately, the room where Karén was playing was booked for a private event. Our question to you is why? However, Kate the hostess turned our experience around. She was very welcoming and apologetic. She arranged for us to have a special table where we could dine and enjoy Karéns play. Our advice, please book private parties accordingly.

This inn is just a mile from the Tanglewood Music Festival and close to restaurants and shops in Lenox, also the Shakespeare Theater. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, and well kept. The inn offers nice breakfasts for guests, and the restaurant is a relaxing place to end a busy day. An annual visit for us for several years.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this historic inn. The room we stayed in was light, airy and had a bed far more comfortable than most inns. The breakfast was varied and ample and served in a well-appointed dining room. But, the surprise of the visit was the free concerts! On weekends, the adjoining restaurant has live entertainment. Even if you are not eating in the dining room, you can sit right outside in the large lobby to hear the music. On three evenings during our stay, a pianist (who had appeared at Carnegie Hall) gave three-hour, no interruption piano concerts! My wife and I thought we were in the Berkshires for the Boston Pops at Tanglewood (they were great also) and, in addition, we had Tanglewood level concerts right in our own hotel! And, the people at the inn were great – especially Mark and Liz, each of whom had multiple roles in making sure the needs of all guests were met.
