The Hunt Lodge

If you want basic then this is for you. The bed was nice but the pillows were terrible, both myself and my OH woke with very stiff necks! The room was absolutely freezing and I ended up sleeping in a hoodie just to keep warm. The "hospitality" tray was a joke with only enough milk for one cup of coffee - good job the OH can drink it black! The tv was incredibly small, I don't think I've ever seen one that small before, difficult to actually watch anything. I usually keep a glass of water by the bed but there weren't any glasses! I really wanted a bath to warm up but unfortunately we only had a shower, that's when I discovered that there wasn't any of the usual complimentary shower gel or shampoo/conditioner! There WAS a bottle of hand wash by the sink, but I certainly wasn't going to use that as a body wash & shampoo! It was mostly clean although it looked pretty bad around the bottom of the shower screen and there were some awful stains on the carpet. So glad we only had to endure one night! Never saw any staff except when we first arrived and were given our key. Shame really as it could've been really nice!

The Hunt Lounge is tired and dated. It needs a lot of renovation to bring it up to a more modern standard i.e. 21st Century. In our room the shower holder was so high up that the shower hose was stretched not allowing water to flow from it so you had to hold the shower to bathe (not conducive for washing yourself) broken bath panel, big chip in the bathroom basin, small duvet for a couple. On entry to reception you could smell cooking drifting from the kitchen into that area. We stayed 2 nights, and no housekeeping done. We read the info in the room and it mentioned the environmental impact of towels and to hang them up if you didn’t require fresh ones nothing else was mentioned about not making beds or replenishing the tea and coffee etc leaving you with nothing the following day which disappointing. On check out there was a bucket in reception catching drips as the roof is leaking not a good look just confirming what I already knew. Breakfast was available for purchase £4 for a ‘to-go’ breakfast however no idea what was in it so no idea if it was value for money or suitable. No staff at reception so was more problematic for getting info other than checking in and getting your keys. Having said that girl who checked us in was lovely and went out of her way to get us early access. The Hunt Lodge is well situated in the town and warm

Nice and clean hotel, in a lovely area next to a park. Altho the hotel is very dated in places but is nice to stay over for a 1 night. Close to train station and the town. No catering as such but plenty of places to eat nearby. The staff very friendly and the hotel is very secure.
