This was on our bucket list and we’re worried that we had looked forward to it for so long we may be disappointed. We needn’t have worried. It was just brilliant from beginning to end. The room was beautiful, food was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We had the delight of being served by a young waitress who was just lovely. The extra touches for my husband’s 50th were just right for someone who doesn’t like a fuss. Breakfast was equally as good and we really hope to return again.

We were somewhat disappointed with our Gourmet one night break. Having not visited for a few years we had clear expectations of the standards and food offering we were hoping for. The place is looking tired. Our bedroom was in need of a refurb, bed was excellent though! Restaurant toilets somewhat shabby, rust on taps and untidy. The extended tearrce area outside was however really good. The restaurant service was reasonable, the five course gourmet menu was was poor value for money, very small portions, presentation good though. Bar service was slow when we arrived mid afternoon, one bartender dispensing drinks! Attention needed to the portion size of cocktails, served in small cocktail glasses, we recommend not ordering the cocktails at these prices. Things have changed, the kitchen garden is now overgrown and clearly not tended. Snack offerings in the bar area pre dinner were not offered as previously, and the post dinner offerings were poor. I remember small eccles cakes were served at one time. Overall we got the impression that costs are being cut at the expense of customer satisfaction and expectations. A few ideas could be learned from other michelin starred establishments i.e. Moor Hall for wxample. Unfortunately we cannot recommend Northcote as we found it this time hence the low star rating.

As it’s been my good fortune to stay in quite a lot of country house hotels over the years I have a mental check list of what’s important to me. I am delighted to say that Northcote ticked all my boxes and some more. Service is flawless in all settings. Rooms are well appointed. Public areas are spacious and welcoming. But the jewel in the crown is the Michelin starred restaurant where the food and wine are worthy of this accolade. Not cheap but worth every penny. For all these reasons Northcote is our go to hotel in the stunning Ribble Valley area.

We stayed here for dinner and overnight on a Gourmet Break. It was as beautiful as we'd expected. The room was perfectly set up with lots of storage, beautiful views. Comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom with lots of space. Tea and coffee making with fresh milk in the fridge and excellent home-baked ginger biscuits. Dinner was fabulous . I was really surprised and delighted that I was able to have a non alcoholic wine flight matching each course, so I was able to fully join in the fun along with the truly excellent food. Beautifully designed executed and served. Our dining experience was really enjoyable. A very special dinner. Breakfast also great. Service throughout really professional and friendly. Wonderful stay, thank you so much.

Well, how do I start? Incredibly slow to begin with despite an almost empty lounge, we've seen the employees having a laugh by the bar before taking our order, and that's a continuing arch throughout the evening. When we were seated, we've waited about 10 minutes for a single snack that was tasty but it took another 10 before we have received our first starter, so after over an hour we're onto our second starter, which is disappointing. You can overhear staff talking and laughing in the corridors but there's barely any sign of them looking after guests on the floor. Food in the end was average, but I guess with the executive chef leaving it's going to be like this, and if it wasn't for the terrible service it could've been a decent evening. Can't recommend, sorry.
