6. August 2023
I rented a room for 4 nights as I was due in Knysna on business in early September 2023. A day later, I was offered accommodation at no extra cost for the period. I notified the edtablishment (see attached), but was told there is a no refund policy for cancellations made less than 60 days in advance. As this is preposterously unethical, I cancelled my booking on 4 August on principle. Such business practices should neither be ignored nor rewarded. I urged them to reconsider and advised I would not surrender a couple of thousands without seeking redress from the appropriate structures. I was then called "abusive" for calling the no zero refubd policy unethical, and accused of being "threatening" for stating that I would bring this to the attention of business bureaus and legal counsel. You CANNOT have a zero refund policy on a booking fully paid in advance and cancelled with 30 days notice. That is unacceptable and outrage is the only appropriate response.
