Pros and cons of our stay at The Woodsman Country Lodge: Pros: * Friendly front desk attendant who was pleasant and helpful * Nice, on-theme wooden furnishings (table and chairs, dresser, tables, bed frame, lamp) were beautiful and worked well in the room * Cute little patio area for each room, with a small table, two chairs, and an umbrella * Microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker in room * Roomy bathroom * Big Foot Tavern across the street had excellent food, fun shuffleboard table, and friendly locals Cons: * Immediately upon entering the room, it was obvious someone had been burning incense. That begged the question: “What smell were they trying to cover up… and why incense?” I really dislike the smell of incense and it has no place in a hotel room. * After awhile it became clear that the incense was an attempt to cover the smell of urine that was strongest under the bathroom counter, but was obvious from any point in the room (though much more faint in the room). * The bedspread was rumpled, as if someone had been lying on it after it was made. * The sheets were red and the towels green. People want crisp white sheets that are washed in hot water and bleached between customers. The colored linens were on theme with a woodsman’s cottage, but can’t be as sanitary as white sheets/towels since they can’t be washed in the same way. * I’m not sure the sheets were washed anyway, as there was a dusty-looking, smudgy line down the length of the bed on one side. Think three foot long makeup smudge. * As soon as we arrived, my husband went to wash his hands and the hot water knob fell off in his hand. It was clearly split down the middle and put back in place. Whether some sort of glue was used, it’s not clear. The cold water tap knob also appeared split, but didn’t come off. We only had cold water at the bathroom sink during our stay. Overall, this room felt like a night at Uncle Brad’s single wide in the woods, one that Aunt Carol tastefully decorated, but Uncle Brad kept adding his own touch to with garage sale finds. There was a solid start to the woodsman theme, but it became cluttered and distasteful with the pinecone drapes, elk shower curtain, and clear toilet seat covered in bullets. The room felt and smelled like Uncle Brad had a few too many drunken boys’ weekends here, and didn’t bother to tote the laundry back home for Aunt Carol to wash.
